I'm trying to make a map like a giant hamster... well, i don't know what it's called, but those wierd maze-type things made from see-throught colored plastic. I'm unsure on how to get the walls to be like colored glass, so should I look around for a texture/shader like that, or should I try and make my own? Would it need to be a shader?

Open a base glass texture in your 2d art program. Recolor it. Copy and paste a glass shader to your new colored glass's shader.

And of course change the lines which tell it which texture to use.

Just out curiousity, if you had a texture which was completely transparent, could you still ahve a working environment shader on it?
