Thought I might as well start a thread up here for my sabre contest entry, anyone else participating, feel free to showcase in this thread if you wish.

This is the initial draft of my hilt's mesh, currently coming in at 1323 verts. I'm going to tidy up some of the curves, and see where concessions can be made (The domed pommel and lights at the base of the hilt aren't pictured, for example), but it's still quite reasonable for a weapon model. Considering it's a fairly large hilt and comprised almost entirely of curved surfaces, the curves have higher definition than is often found in hilt meshes.

Still needs to be UV mapped and textured, the contest submission will either be silver with a red glow or gold with a red glow, whichever I feel looks better. The complete pack will have both gold and silver hilts, with separate glowing variations for different blade colors. When completed, it will also feature new blade effects and sounds.

A little bit of a description, since this is designed to be more than just a standard lightsabre:

Holosabre - The holosabre is a Sith-designed weapon, combining a regular lightsabre with a Sith holocron. Originally intended as an artificial enhancement to sabre training, a Sith Master's holocron would be incorporated into an apprentice's lightsabre, thereby granting the student some of the combat skills of the tutor. However the process was dangerous; use of a holosabre would often put too much strain on an unprepared student's body and mind, and some would become reliant on the sabre to fight for them. Added to these dangers the difficulty of constructing the holocron made Holosabres very rare weapons.

Why so many sides? You could make it 8 sided and no one would notice in game.

Michelangelo could have used fewer color tones on the Sistine Chapel ceiling and I doubt anyone would have noticed. As I said before, by modern standards it's a very low-poly model. There's no harm whatsoever in making it a more accurate shape, unless you plan on spawning several thousand of these things at once.

Edit: And infact since it's for a contest, it's going to be under more scrutiny than usual, and probably will be noticed ingame at some stage.

really nice hilt you got there !

I guess I'm gonna show mine too sithsaber.png textures and mesh still need some optimizing ~990 verts for the moment 2 512*512 texture maps , the head is based at a Varactyl (huge lizard from Utapau)

I see I'm not the only one with a head-emitter idea. I dunno whether I'll finish mine though, don't feel like texturing it.

To be honest I don't think I'm going to submit mine for the contest anyway. There a a couple of issues with the game itself I want to try and fix first, otherwise this thing will not behave the way it's meant to ingame.

I dont know if I canf xi my shader problem till tomorrow If not I cant submit it =/
