Hey, some of you guys may remember my Buster Sword retexture from a while back, if not: Advent Children Buster Sword Replacement Mod, Jedi Knight 3 Downloads, Jedi Knight 3 Weapons I actually went back and changed it at one point, but never got around to packing it up as a Version 2....oh well. Once I pin down exactly how to go about making these purely stand alone, I may do a pack, one with my Advent Children-ish version, which is almost a grey-scale version of the whole reason I opened this thread. This is my retexture of the Buster Sword to show how approximately how it appears in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. I know the new details on the blade aren't there, but that's because of how the darn thing was mapped. First off, changes since V1: 1) The "photoshop" textures are different and IMO better. It's a lot harder to see the stretching now. 2) I removed the shiny shader. Yeah, it was pretty and all on a shiny sword, but for all intents and purposes, the Buster Sword was never shiny. 3) Now onto the Crisis Core elements. I changed the handle from the original, giving it a sort of pebble-ish leathery texture. Honestly, I'm kinda disappointed in how it shows up stretched, but that's the wrapping for ya. 4) The color of the blade is darkened to where it's almost black & white. The criss-cross effect of the white part's texture is quite visible, and I really can't get rid of it without redoing the entire blade...and I don't know if I want to do that yet, lol! 5) I darkened the mid-area with the materia slots to "match" the rest of the dark blade, I didn't quite get it, but I am working on it...I also added the gold "gilding" that goes around that area. 6) Speaking of gold, I adjusted the color of the guard and pommel areas to look gold...please tell me if I got it close, I hate being freakin color-blind! Anyway guys, C&C are appreciated! As I said, this isn't quite done, I still have some scripting stuff to take care of, as well as some little tweaks here and there as far as the texture goes. Plus, I'm going to try, repeat TRY to make the Advent Children one a little rusty, but if not...I'll just say that the gold color wore off and Cloud replaced the handle wrapping. lol! Enjoy the pic! Yes, pic. One. That's all you get for now. I'll get a gameplay shot later. :P

The bigger part of the blade looks a bit dark, but it's nothing an overly shiny shiny shiny shiny shiny chrome shader can't fix, right?

The colorization is accurate. Check the screenshots in my next pic. Changes: I added the little golden dot at the bottom of the middle part of the hilt and I darkened the area around the materia slots to match the blade.

Your skin seems to lack some detail, making it differ from both the Advent Children Buster and the Crisis Core Buster. Use your attached images of the Buster Sword Zack holds as a reference. Your buster sword is missing the detail in the dark portion of the buster sword and the Crisis Core Buster sword has a different design in the golden guard that your Buster Sword lacks.

Other then that though, it's getting there.

I would LOVE to add the details in the dark portion of the blade. But because of the wrapping on this model(which isn't mine), any details added to the blade stretch annoyingly. As for the golden guard...well, put simply, I can't draw to save my life, so the design will pretty much have to stay. Thanks for the constructive criticism though, I appreciate it! :)

Why does everyone keep saying it's too dark?? Look at the pictures of the thing in Crisis Core, it's nearly black! Anyway, I'm trying to get it to where it doesn't overwrite the previous AC Buster Sword, but not having much luck in that department. Even if the AC & CC pk3s have different textures, they both look the same in the game. Weird... Plus, I'm going to email the original author again to make sure that it's fine for me to release it. You know. Just to be nice. ;) So maybe next week?

Black items, aren't actually black.

Think charcoal.

I don't know how, and I don't know why, but this is totally Sheep's fault.

Well, to me it looks about the same color as in screens. But then again, I'm a bit colorblind, so that might be why its off. Anyway, after really looking at it, I realized that, while the dark part of the blade looks correct, the light part was too light and gray. I edited it to look more white and in my eyes, it actually lightened up everything. It looks better to me. Ingame shots soon, I promise! And as near as I can tell....it WILL have to overwrite previous Advent Children Buster Sword mods, at least for a version 1.0. If only the texture wrapping wasn't so odd, I could easily texture in the new details for Crisis Core/Advent Children. Pic: Upper pic is older version; lower is the slightly updated version.
