Hey,

I have been working on a map lately for JKA in GTKradiant 1.5, at the moment I am working on an elevator.

I made this with func_door, it needs to go down when it is triggered (by a trigger_multiple) and after 2 seconds back up. At the bottom there is another trigger to do the same thing.

I used "lip" to give the func_door this elevator effect.

But I got some problems with the textures, the top texture is black (while it actually has a wooden texture) It only gets black when I am ingame, testing the map. I am sure it has the right texture, because when I come close with my lightsaber I see the texture.

I have tried so many things but the top texture stays black (the other sides of the elevator are the right ones.

Anyone knows why there is a lightning problem?

Many thanks,

Carl

Ps: happy holidays

probably a shader problem or you are missing a light there..

Light is calculated from the starting position of doors so you will need to ensure the top of your lift is adequatley lit at its starting position.

For example: kkbiqdassl.jpg Lift Door Light entity

Figure 1 minght be how you have the lift setup in GTKRadiant. The light minght look like it is hitting your lift in radiant but if you have your lift set to start open then the light will be calclated as in figure 2 meaning the light cannot reach your lift so the top of the lift would appear pitch black. To stop this you would have to place a light entity in GTKRadiant as in figure 3 so light is hitting the surface of the lift when it is in its starting position.

Hope that helps.

Not missing a light.

The elevator is in the middle of a room with the same textures as the floor, the floor texture is good, but the top of the elevator (wich aligns with the floor) is black.

On a func_door is there maybe always a black texture on the opposit side of movement? My elevator goes down (for a secret passage). When I try this with func_plat, the textures are ok, but I want the elevator to move back up after 2 seconds and with a func_plat you need to wait till the person has left the platform. Or is there a way to solve this with a platform to?

Thanks in advance,

Carl

The picture shows the elevator.

map.jpg

The elevator starts it position 1 if it is triggered it goes down for 2 seconds and the moves back up.

when you look from position 2 you see a decent texture. When you are at position 1 and look down you see a black texture.

I really have no clue, because everything has decent lightning just the top of the elevator is black.

Thanks,

Carl

PHEW! It was an uphill struggle but i finally got it. Im still not exactly sure why it was happening but the fix seems to be..... move your entire level up a bit.

The surface of the door that wasnt lighting properly was right on the 0 point of the Z axis, i selected the entire map and moved it up like so:

belcxkejty.jpg

So just select your entire map and move it up a bit and the problem should be solved! If you cant get it just let me know and ill send you back the working map file.

I must say i like your mapping style, it has a very "I have many leather-bound books and my map smells of rich mahogany " feel about it.

Woaw, thanks very much.

That did the trick, yes

I have no clue why, but it worked. Heh

Ok finally I can go work further on the map, but you liked what you saw? :)

I have always liked the more "modern" maps, have seen to many caves etc...

Thanks,

Carl
