So I am just now learning how to get around JK2 Radiant, make a basic room, add textures, lighting etc, HOWEVER; I would really like to look at other maps and see how they are put together, the .map files I have available seem to be only designed for JK2 and do not have the all the textures, and the others are locked up into .pk3 files and I don't know how to get at these maps to look at them, what do I do?

do a search of these forums for : decompile

careful though. you cannot steal from other peoples maps, they might get very pissed off.

It SHOULD be illegal, though it's not, there is a .BSP -> .MAP plugin for Radient on jk3files.com. It's a real easy way to rip people's work though; I suggest just looking at it the way you intended to.

You don't need a plugin to turn a BSP into a map... q3map2 can do that already. As for finding out how, Search functions are your best friend.

and remember... if you 'borrow' any components, ask the author of the map you borronw from first, and only do it if they say ok

We're talking about Radiat, number one, and if you yourself don't know how to do it, who will? Using the plugin on jk3files is the easiest way.

If he is using the map for his own, I don't think he needs permition.

Thank you very much, since I am new this will be helpful to check out other maps as a guide. I also figured out how to unzip the .pk3 files (i just renamed them to .zip files and then convert them back later on). I am sure it would be okay to use the raven textures and resources already in the game without permission?

you dont need to change the names - just rightClick the pk3:s and press "open with" and go to winzip. yes, "ofcource" you are allowed to use the textures from the game.
