I know that alot of people prejudice effects-editing because they think that it is so easy, but people can do alot of great things with EffectsEd. So, is there anyone out there who can help me? Is anyone good at effects making?? So, anyhow, I am so confused! Is SourceSafe a downloadable program? Because, for one, I cannot overwrite any of the effects in the Jedi Academy base/assets1/effects directory. It says I need SourceSafe because the files are read-only. For seconds, I am terribly limited to the JK2 gfx. I know that JK3 has, like, 2x the amount of good gfx as JK2 does, but I can't get any of them to show up on the Choose Shader menu. See, I originally got EffectsEd to use for JK2 because, well, that's all I had at the time :P so the default dir. that I set for EffectsEd was the base directory of JK2, and all of the gfx worked perfect. But, now that I set the default dir. to the JK3 base, the Choose Shader list is totally empty. No matter what I try or how many times i press that 'refresh assets' button, there are no JK3 gfx I can use. What's happening?

Are you using Assets1.pk3, and the GFX folder, NOT the effects one?

I use effectsEd all the time make a seperate pk3 and then make the folders to the location of the effect you want to create then add the effect in your pk3 download the JKA SDK then you will get a updated version of effects Ed

ooooooooooooooookay! Slusk--it does seem that you have some useful things to say. But this, time, post what you are trying to say, and please speak slowly!! I hate it when people cram everything into one sentence--I can't understand what they're saying. P.S. I read the storyline on your Dark Paths forum--this mod idea sounds GREAT!!!! I will help best as I can, including effects (i make a mean spark effect :), for the clashing swords), sounds, and maybe even models, if I can get Milkshape working. I was thinking of doing something like this, but now I can join your project! I might even be able to do some great blood effects....muhahahahaha!!

sweet thanks alot for the interest, I tried to have the storyline done and some progress befor I asked for help.

sorry about craming it all into one sentence I had to get off and I was really rushing it.

what I was saying: assuming you have Pakscape and some modding experance.

1.) open pakscape 2.) make a new Pk3 3.) now add the folder effects 4.) make the folders going to the effects you want to replace.

eg. if the effect you want to replace a effect thats in effects/saber then make effect/saber in your pk3

5.) take the effect you have and save it as the same name as the effect you are replacing. 6.) paste your effect into you Pk3 file in the same location as the other effect would be.

7.) run the game you watch your effects.

better?

Actually, I already know how to do that and have done it an innumerable amount of times. I have made numerous mods on my own, as well (all effects :)). What I was wondering was why the JK3 files won't appear in the Choose Shader menu after I set the default directory to Jedi Academy/GameData/base .

ohhhh, well sorry for treating you like a Newbie it won't add to the menu it is in the code, you have to open the effect using notepad and change to the gfx file you want.
