I have made a droid model in gmax but I dont know how to export it so you can use it in jka as a npc like r2d2 I also would like to know how to make it dismemberable by the head. also does a droid need a skeleton? I'm new to modeling so if you could explain to me how to do these things in detail it would be great thanks in advance

You can't do it in Gmax. To export it ingame you will need to weight it to one of pre-existing jk3 skeletons and to do that you need either 3Ds Max version that's compatibile with the plugins (6,7 or 8 should work) or XSI Mod Tools.

I suggest you read some of the tutorials in the sticky topic.

I have xsi modtool but I dont know how to import character models into it I dont havent seen a plug in for it but ill check the stickies any way thanks for the info

one problem i'm having is How should I go about weighing this since a rd2 droid and how do I make it so its head can dismember?

You have to create a skeleton for it. I don't think you could get the r2 skeleton from anywhere. Anyway, once that's done rig it as you should. Droids are rigid, so it should be simple. Bones only in joints like the shoulder and ankle. As for the dismemberment, you simply make the head a separate object and set the dismemberment probability in the .npc file.

You should be able to get the skeleton from the source files that were released on jk3files....there was like several sets of models that all have their skeletons included.....but after you import that skeleton file....you would need to delete everything but the skeleton and its tags....then you would need to link and weigh the parts of the skeleton together...and then you could weigh the droid to it.
