I'm looking for a perfable gold shader i can use for like candle sticks,railings, etc, or brass since both were common material, i have the textures for this so in a sense i suppose a chrome shader would work

That depends on how shiny you want it. There is a shader that makes it look like it's coated with glass but if you want something more realistic I would create my own shader texture that has some imperfections in it.

Even a spec shader could work just fine.

I have made a goldish shader by simply taking the source pictures from a chrome shader, copying it, editing it in photoshop, adjusting the variations to a brownish yellow color, and putting it back into the game with a new shader. I don't really know much about shaders though. I usually just copy the properties I want off of them.

well I think you can use a normal spec map for a brass shader

models/players/example/brass { q3map_nolightmap q3map_onlyvertexlighting { map models/players/example/brass rgbGen lightingDiffuse } { map models/players/example/brass_spec blendFunc GL_SRC_ALPHA GL_ONE detail alphaGen lightingSpecular } }

So you will have the normal map ( brass ) and the spec map ( brass_spec ) with some lights were you want the piece of part of the skin to shine...
