Hey all :cya: Over the past three years (yes, THREE years) I've been working on a mod for JK2 that replaces all the default weapons with all the Halo 1 weapons (yes, ALL the Halo one weapons). Since porting is a no-no on filefront, I've spent that time creating and tweaking and re-tweaking my own models to look as much like the real Halo ones as possible. I think I've come pretty darn near perfect now, and I'm ready to put them in game. Problem is, I can't seem to get it done right. I've read a few things about getting your guns in-game, but they weren't very comprehensive and didn't really tell me anything new. So now I'm a bit lost. I can get the model to work fine in-game JK2 (I haven't tried in JK3 yet but I fully intend to get it working in both games); its position is fine and the bullets come out where they should, but the textures don't apply (yes, I did create a .skin file and apply it using MD3View). Also, the gun only works in 3rd person. I've made both MD3 and GLM versions of the pistol so that it SHOULD work in both 1st and 3rd person, but it doesn't. Any help? (btw, I know I already posted this in the jk2 forums, but I hear the process for getting them in JA is a bit different than JO, so I need help from JA ppl too)
To re-inforce what The Soleutator is saying, the textures need to be in powers of two (e.g. they need to be 512x512 px), usually in squares. In Gmax, at least, changing the picture's size doesn't distort the texture on the model too badly (from experience). Any power of 2 is fine.
All textures are 512x512, in the JPEG format. But maybe you guys have helped me out by reminding me about the textures anyway...maybe it's the compression I'm using (I've found that JA/JO don't like certain compressions used with GIMP). I'll go try that out
Cool, that actually worked! Texture recompression fixes my issue here. The battle isn't over yet :uhoh: but I'm getting there. Gotta fix this issue next, but I think I know how: thanks for you guys' help!
First person view has to be an md3. I'd check in md3view and see if the actual md3 was compiled right.
Ya, stuff like the hand. Also, I know its hard work but are you going to animate the Covenant laser gun? (ya know... turns to the side a bit and a hatch opens with green light, then boom!) I presume it will replace the bryar pistol and jk3 pistol?
From the looks of it, the UNSC M6D pistol is going to be the pistol replacement. Then again, I'm not the author, so I can only give my best guess.
On a side note, the 3rd person view looks pretty good. Just as a curiosity, which other weapons are you planning on including?
@The Soleutator: yeah, I got everything working right in 1st and 3rd person now!! @Pande: sry, I'm not getting quite that complex :(. Sure would be cool, though. Unfortunately I'm clueless when it comes to JK2/JK3 animating. @Nohmanara: Yes, the UNSC pistol replaces the bryar pistol/blaster pistol. Other weapons I'm planning on putting in: plasma pistol, plasma rifle, needler, assault rifle, rocket launcher, sniper, shotgun, flamethrower...pretty much everything except the covenant plasma launcher that some grunts carry around in Halo 1 SP. I made a model of it, but it's giving me no end of trouble trying to get it functioning in-game, so I doubt it will find its way into the pack. It might...but we'll just have to see.
