PM = Private Message
Heres an explanation on PMs from the forum FAQ:
Private Messages work like an email but are limited to registered members of Gaming Forums. With this function you can quickly send a message to another user regarding anything. To do so, click on the username of the person you want to contact and select 'Send a private message to [username]'. This will open an advanced textbox where you can write your message. Another way of sending a Private Message is to go to your 'User Control Panel' and find the link labelled 'Send New Message' found under 'Private Messages' or simply click here. By doing this, you have to add the recipient’s name manually. In the receiver field you have the ability to send the Private Message to up to five members at the same time. For Advanced Members this option is ten. By default, you will have two folders in your Private Message panel: the 'Inbox' and the 'Sent Items folder'. The 'Inbox' folder contains any messages you receive along with the name of the persons who sent the messages to you and the date and time the messages was sent. The 'Sent Items' folder contains a copy of any messages that you have sent. To create additional folders for your messages, click on the 'Edit Folders' link. Next to each Private Message in your folders there is an icon. means that you have not checked the message before, symbolises that you have red the message, shows that you have replied to the message and means that you have forwarded the Private Message to another member. Also note that unread messages are displayed with bold writing until you check them. You can store up to 1000 Private Messages but if you exceed that number, you will not be able to send or receive new messages until you delete some of your old messages. For Advanced Members there is no limit to the number of messages that can be stored. Whenever you read a message, you have the option of replying to the message, or forward that message to another member of the forum. To do so, either click to reply to the message or click to forward it to another member. When clicking on the reply button, a new Private Message will be opened including the previous message in quote tags, and the original sender will automatically be added as the recipient. By clicking on the forward button, the same thing will happen except you have to add the recipient’s name manually. When you send a new private message, you have the option of requesting a 'read receipt' for that message. This will allow you to check whether or not the message has been read by its recipient. This can be seen on the Private Message Tracking page found under 'Private Messages'. This page is divided into two sections: unread messages and read messages. The unread messages section shows all messages that you have sent with a read receipt request, which have not yet been read by their recipient. Any Private Message in this section can be cancelled if you no longer wish to track it. The read messages section shows all messages you have sent with a receipt request that have been read and by their recipient. When you receive a message with a read receipt request, you may have the option to read the message while denying the read receipt request. To do this, simply click the 'deny receipt' link rather than the title of the message.
