I know I've been creating a lot of "Help" threads, but I'm a newbie mapper, and it's kind of hard for me.

Okay, I created a map in GTKRadiant and compiled it into the maps JKA folder, and while I was in multiplayer, I used the devmap cheat to load my map. After about 15 seconds on the Starting Up screen, it took me to the main menu with a wonderful error message window stating: SW_SetBrushModel: Null. What does this mean and how do I fix it?

If you're talking about the devmap code, its not really a cheat code. It just lets you load a map without having to create a pk3 for it. If you're talking about the cheat codes being enabled WHEN you use the devmap code, well, it's the only way I can load a map without pk3ing it, and I don't have pk3 software.

Get WinRAR or pakscape, though I prefer WinRAR. Then you'll have a pk3 software.

/devmode means developer mode as u can use some functions here which are needed for botrouting, render speed measurements, etc... sure, these functions can also be considered as cheats but they are primarily integrated for developping purposes. ;)

None of this is helping his problem, by the way.

In Radiant, press the N key to bring up a list of all entities in the map. Every entity that's made up of brushes (that's things like func_doors, func_plats, things like that) will have a little arrow beside it to bring down a sub-menu. This error is frequently caused by Radiant keeping an entity even when all it's constituent brushes have been deleted. Look for an entity which should have a sub-menu but doesn't, select it in the list and delete it. There may be more than one, so check the whole list before recompiling.

That's assuming he's using 1.5 - Radiant 1.4 will not do that. If you get this error and you've checked your entity list, it means:

A: You have a brush that's too small for q3 to handle.

B: You have an areaportal brush that is part of a func_door, func_wall or some other func_ entity. Areaportals NEED TO BE WORLDSPAWN - func_group does not work either.

But your problem is probably what "The one and only" said. If you're using 1.4, don't bother with the entity list, just check areaportals and CSG subtract areas. Subtraction sometimes generates brushes that stretch to infinity, and have no thickness. Those are the ones that cause it.

I get this error constantly when mapping, i use GTKRadiant 1.5.0 and the way i usually get round it is by opening the map, selecting everything, hitting copy, creating a new map, hitting paste then save and compile as normal.

If it loads up without the error i then save it over the outher non-working version and also save the file as "filename"working.map this means that if it happoens again and copying and pasting dosent fix it i can just restore from my backup which i know is error free.

Anyway i dont know if this technique will work for you since im also fairly new to mapping but i figured if it does its alot quicker than sitting looking through the entity list looking for errors.

If memory serves having a brush entity consisting only of the origin brush causes this error as well.

Try to press L and look after an entity without an arrow next to it.
