Herro! I'm new to re-skinning and whatnot. I, actually, focus on saber re-skins for now, and I have had quite a bit of success in the recent past... But that was Single Sabers... I'm doing a Dual (staff) now and I'm quite stuck :( I THINK that all I need is a working [.skin] file format/template, so that my skin will show up over the regular skin... I'm not sure if this part is important or not, but the file I'm re-skinning is the Dragon Staff from the Revan Weapons Pack. This is probably either a really stupid question, or a really good question, because so far I've seen nothing about [.skin] files on the forums :( Gracias, in advance! ~Manfred
Okay, here's what you do to make your skin for the Dragon Staff work:
1. In both of the .sab files named DragonStaff.sab and DragonStaff_MP.sab, add the following line under the saberModel line: customSkin "models/weapons2/saber_DragonStaff/saber_w.skin" 2. Make a new text file and put in the following lines in (I think this is all of them from the glm file): w_saber,models/weapons2/saber_DragonStaff/saber.jpg w_saber2,models/weapons2/saber_DragonStaff/saber2.jpg w_saber1,models/weapons2/saber_DragonStaff/saber1.jpg w_saber3,models/weapons2/saber_DragonStaff/saber.jpg
Save it as saber_w.skin and put it in the saber_DragonStaff folder along with your retextures.
Hope this works for you. Good luck. :)
:( I tried that before, and then again after you told me to, it didn't work... I'm pretty sure my comp just hates me, that's all :P
Most (if not all) saber GLMs have the .skin file baked into them. There are three ways to mod the skin in this situation:
1. Use a powerful but expensive modeling program to modify the .glm file.
2. If there is a .md3 version of the model available, use MD3View (comes with Radiant 1.4) to make a new .glm file with your own .skin file.
3. If all else fails, modify the original shaders and textures.
mmkay, I'll try, I think I saw a MD3 file, can't quite remember. Update: not an MD3 file there :( and the .glm file was where I got the original .skin file, but it didn't seem to work too well =/
This is weird! Okay, try renaming the skin file and make sure you change the name in the customSkin line of the .sab files too. Try naming it something like model_dragon.skin or something like that and see if that works. That's just too weird; it should be working?!?
If the .skin file is baked into the .glm, the customskin line won't do anything.
Yeah, I finally realized that this won't work. I wish I knew why RevanDark didn't include md3 files with the weapons. Might could have at least been able to write a skin file from MD3View, right? Makes no sense. Oh, well.
Because the game uses only one saber md3, and that's Katarn's saber. (Used by the weapon_saber entity)
Because he didn't want people modding his "s***"
I talked to the creator, and she couldn't even help me >_> That was before I got on these forums. idk, I'm about to re-review it, I'll keep ya updated.
