I am trying to make a mod that allows the player to use dual pistols. I know that this is a feature of Forcemod III and The Last Hope mod, but the clan I am making this for is running JA+, and they would prefer not to switch mods on everyone. I was asked, as the only person on the clan with semi-working knowledge of modding, to make a mod that gives the player dual pistols. Just one problem: I have no idea how to go about doing such a thing. My clan knows this, and they suggested I ask around here. So, having had good luck with this kind of thing here in the past:
How would I go about making a dual pistols mod? Is it a coding thing, or is it modeling or something like that? In the words of Tom Petty, I need to know!
It's coding. It can only be done in MP, as far as I know, so you're in luck :D. Force mod, Moviebattles, and I believe the Ninja Mod does the same thing. Finding a coder that can do that is pretty hard, though. You might as well tell whoever's hosting the server to run one of those mods.
Someone made a mod a while back that gave some npc's dual pistols, that much I know. Could the same principle be applied to the player?
No, because that is a line in the .NPC file, it's the commando NPC, I believe. Some people over at Banana productions and I researched this for a bounty hunter mod.
Not just any Bannana productions...EXPANDED Bannana. Sry. And as to the above mentioned, I would recommend hosting one of the above mentioned mods, as they are done fairly well and it would probably be a waste of time doing something which has already been done before. Peace!
Thanks for the advice. Does any one of the mods support animations like the ones in JA+? The clan is an RP clan, and that was primarily why we used JA+.
So basicly you want to take JA+ and put in dual pistols if i understand correctly, which is with one simple word, impossible. It has to be coded the game mod itself, and you cannot edit an excisting mod, so you're best guess is to ask the mod's creator to do this for you (Slider i think...?)
D'OH! Should have thought of that... Thanks, Deathspike. I talked my fellow higherarchs and we will shortly be making a switch to Moviebattles, since we deemed that it was the mod most suited to our needs. If Slider honors my request however, we will switch back to JA+.
EDIT: Just thought of this. Is there a way to change the fire rate for the blaster pistol so it fires at the same speed as, say, the primary fire of the Heavy Repeater?
I think you need to do a recoding.

Yes, I wouldn't suggest it, though. Give me 5 minutes and I'll look up the answer for you.
EDIT: You can change it in weapons.dat - this is in ext_data. Open weapons.dat with notepad and change the firetime for the pistol, and you can have it match the heavy repeater. This gives the blaster pistol a hideous advantage, though.
