Hey all. I'm new here and just about as new to modding. Here's my problem. I don't wanna do anything fancy like making a model from scratch. All I'm trying to do is take the head from one model and put it on the body of another (example: put luke's head on a stormtrooper's body). I've gone into 3ds max (trial version 8) and rearranged the model parts to my liking. I downloaded the skeletons of both Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy, but everytime I go to "merge" the model ends up being about twice as small as the skeleton (or smaller). This makes it hard for me to see what I'm doing when I try (key word is "try") to weight them to the bones. Even still, I dunno if I'm doing any of the earlier stuff right. I really would appreciate help on this subject, be it a tutorial (please don't refer me to the sticky, I've read through all that stuff dozens of times and it hasn't helped), a message here that explains it step by step, or even someone wanting to get with me on AIM to walk me through it. This is something that I'd like to know how to do, as I have more than one idea that would require this. Oh, and if the AIM option is chosen...I'll PM it to ya:)

please...somebody reply. I really need to know how to do this stuff. I implore you. None of the tutorials have helped me in the way I need them to.

alright, that helps somewhat...however, when I try to open the skeleton file, and then merge it with the model, the model ends up being at least half the size of the skeleton. Because this happens, I can't see where everything is supposed to go.

Use the scale tool.

Oh, and one thing that helped me learn how to rig was PsykOsith's site, which has tools, and tutorials on it.

It can be found in the master sticky.

Alright, so I finally figured most of this stuff out. I've just run into one little problem. There are two pieces that will NOT weight. Those two pieces are the bolt_hand_l and the bolt_head_top. Everytime I try to weigh them to a bone...ANY bone...the little dots showing weight never appear. Anyone have any tips for this? Am I not weighing them to the right bones, and if not, which bones should I weight them to?

okay, so i've been working on this for over a week and i'm still not getting anywhere. would anyone be interested in doing this for me? basically it's quite simple in theory. place the chiss head on hapslash's obi-wan model. you can pm me or reply (or both) if you're interested.

I've been working really hard on this mod i've been trying to do. I actually have another thread on this subject. The problem is that I'm trying to put a head of one model onto the body of another. I've gotten everything lined up, and no matter what I do, I always get an error when I try to compile/assimilate. I've literally been putting in nearly five-six hours a day on this thing...for the last week and a half or so. If someone wouldn't mind, could I send the model to you and you could go and fix what needs to be fixed, and then tell me what you fixed for future reference? I would greatly appreciate any help.

threads merged.

Do not bump this thread. I have already deleted one bumping post. I really don't want to lock it. But bump it again and it goes to the dancing-lock show.
