Hello, Friends and I are making some models, and we want them done by a certain time period. So, I was just asking how long does it really take to weight? Just estimate how long you think it'll take. All comments are appreciated!

It only takes about an hour to have a model roughly weighted. Then you can spend a lot of days tweaking it, maybe even weeks. It all depends on your skills and the complexity of the model.

Usually it takes about a half hour or so to get the weights to the point where the model isnt blowing up whenever you move a joint, then takes a LONG time after that to get it perfect. Its just one of those things you need to do however. Doing a poor job is a good way to make a perfectly good model look like shiz ingame, and turn everyone off of it. So take up all the time you can on it without skimping on the walk cycles or anything else planned for it, but this is the most important step in the animation process besides rigging it initially. If you skimp now, the model will crash and burn, so again, put your all into weighting it well, and enough time into it to. Some things are just supposed to take a long time, like skinning properly. I see some skins that shouldnt be on models, and many others that are passable, but still not very good. Ive seen about 5 truly good skins on jk3files out of the skin\model mods Ive seen there.
