Hi guys, I'm new to HUD making. So I have my HUD all designed, split into parts, all with an alpha channel, and they all load up with the correct transparency in JKA. The trouble I am having is with the hud.menu file. Whenever I try to re-size/move a part of the HUD, nothing happens when I load up JKA. Along with this, is there an easier way of determining the correct coordinates rather than through trial and error? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am slightly frustrated.
Since you are modding the hud menu, you should know that the elements of a menu are drawn in a 640x480 virtual screen (I can't find another word to define it). Just create a 640x480 image in Photoshop or Fireworks and draw a box exactly with the size you specified in the menu. In Fireworks I'm sure the coordinates are shown, I'm not sure if it's the same case with Photoshop.
Awesome thanks so much! That helped A LOT. I used fireworks to get the coordinates and sizes. The thing is, I'm STILL having trouble as even though I'm editing the sizes and coordinates, still NOTHING is changing ingame? I'm very confused. It has all of the different sections in the default HUD areas and I can't get them to move.
Are you sure, your file overwrites the default one? You can test it by removing some elements :P
I was wondering that myself also... I'll try removing the hud.menu file from the assets folder tomorrow and see if it makes a difference. The thing is, if it does, how could I make the hud.menu in my .pk3 overwrite the hud.menu in the assets?
Thanks so much for your help guys. I'm off to sleep, but I'll give it a shot as soon as I wake up.

McJord;5636604I'll try removing the hud.menu file from the assets folder
Don't do that... First thing, make sure your file paths are correct, and that you're making a zip archive at the right level (zipping ext_data rather than zipping a folder containing ext_data, etc.) Secondly make sure that your pk3 file has a name that comes after (alphabetically) any other files that might affect the HUD, including the assets files.

Thanks for the reply. I'm just a little confused about what I should be doing with ext_data, however. All I am using is the directories: "ui -> hud.menu" and "gfx -> hud" in my .pk3 file. I'm unsure what I should be using the ext_data folder for. I apologize if this is a stupid question. I'm fairly new to modding and I'm still trying to wrap my head around it.

Oh, sorry that's my mistake, I meant "ui", not "ext_data". All I meant was make sure you're archiving that folder (and anything else like gfx, shaders), rather than putting it inside another folder and archiving that.
Oh I know what you mean. That's how I have it set up, and that's why it's confusing me. Everything should be working, but it's not. I've dealt with .pk3's and pk3 structure a lot in the past (through mapping and skinning, etc.), so perhaps it's a syntax error in the .menu file. I'm not sure where it'd be though as I'm only changing the coordinates and the sizes. Anyway, I'll keep messing around with it and see what happens. Any other ideas as to what I might be doing wrong would be greatly appreciated! It's probably something so so simple.
Thanks for all of your help, guys!
If there would be syntax error, it would still overwrite the default one. Be sure, your *.pk3 file is the LAST in the directory alphabetically. So give it a name like ZZZZZZZtest.pk3. You could also send us your pk3 file for investigating.
