Ok, Recently I've been working on a Hydroball map, except right now I've got to a stage where its easily playable, but doesn't quite feel finished. So I'm just wondering if you guys have any ideas/ features that you would like to see in the map.

(please don't go flaming about how nobody plays hydroball etc because more often than not, people play it privately on non-dedicated servers).

Oh, and also, here are a few screens of the map as it is right now:

(and for those of you too lasy to click the links, here's another: ) shot0000-1.jpg

Wasnt there something like this in final fantasy 10. Also this map has been done a few times...suggestions ? Good music. Fun sound effects and possibly releasable monsters into the dome.

Have dome controls where you can lock players in and cook them etc etc.Turn on able Lazers in the dome that cut players up...cool stuff like that.

Little hint for the dome, use system/caulk on every brush that is currently glass, and then select ONLY THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE FACES, not all the eges of the brushes, and use the glass texture on those, it makes glass domes look much better.

Looking great so far, I love Hydroball!

briankory;3513427Wasnt there something like this in final fantasy 10. Also this map has been done a few times... .

Its been done once, and not very well if i recall. Plus it was for JK2.

For suggestions, i recommend lockerrooms of somesort, where the teams can discuss strategies team layouts and whatnot. Also it be neat to have some sort of eyecandy, like those big lights that light up the sky (i forget the name but hopefully this pic of the 20 century fox logo will help lol)

300px-Logo_20th_century_fox.jpg

Also fountains like those of certain las vegas casinos would be a plus.

Also are there seating areas for spectators? I can't see any in the screen, but i assume they are there.

And are you able to go in the buildings in the third pic? Maybe a bar? You could turn the map into a RPG map if you wanted to.

And it would be great to see a daytime version of this map.

Oh yeah, i cant see any plants or trees anywhere. I know its in some sort of city/town area, but towns and cities have trees aswell. Maybe a line of them inline with the benches in screen 3. I dunno :P

Thats all i can think of for now, but if i think of anything else ill post something. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the tip with the caulk on the sphere, looks quite a bit better now. Also, Sanj, right now you can't get into the buildings but I'll probably open a few up for a bar (as you suggested). I also like the idea of the trees on the streets and locker rooms. Not too sure how easy it would be to create spotlights with visible beams and fountains could be tricky.

As far as locking players in the sphere and 'cooking' them or killing them with lasers goes, could really mess up the map as far as playing goes: not everyone is nice enough not to break up proper matches while people are playing :(.

Hydroball is a mod >_> so yes there have been several maps already done for the hydroball gametype. This one looks very interesting. I'd say keep it simple. No bars. No rpg aspects. It's a hydroball map, keep it that way. You don't need miles of expanse in a hydroball map, what you have seems fine :)

For visable light beams, there's a texture somewhere called grey_dust or something, but It's a white to transparent shader, and it's used in the ion control station on the hoth2 map.

I was refering to the spherical blitzball type arena that was in Final Fantasy X, which has only been done once in JK2. (or were you refering to what briankory said :P)

So what if its just a hydroball map? Doesn't mean he can't have some fun with it.

If he made it so people could FFA aswell as play hydroball..well then people have would just have more of a reason to download it.

sweat a hydroball map i think haveing more lamposts lighting up the city would add a nice effect makeing it look more industrealized that and it will make the map a little brighter makeing it a little easier to see in but still giveing it that night feeling. also i see in ur screen shots ur dome (which i like alout) is in the building then why can i see the sky box and why dosnt it have the mountions like in the other shots

Ok, the sphere isn't inside the building, it is just behind it, would have required a whole load of walkways and stuff to get the sphere to be connected to the building so unfortunately I had to use teleporters, but I sort of managed to sink some models I found a bit into the ground inside the building to create an entrance-type thingy. As for why there isn't any more terrain, its because I use easygen to create my terrain and that generally involves a whole load of brushes which lowers the FPS by a bit. Here're 2 more pics of the teleporters and the sphere (looks a bit odd because I cut out the rest of the map, same with the teleporters)
