Hi!
I've two questions!
First:
Is it legal to download models (made by other people) from filefront, edit them a little bit (change skin) and to upload them? Of course with a Readme-File which contains the following line:
"The model was created by XXX. This is just a reskin!"
Second question:
Is it legal to download models (made by other people) WITHOUT editing them and put them together with a new config.cfg and autoexec.cfg into a .zip-file, to make a "mod" and offer it on filefront? Of course with a Readme-file which says who made the models.
Yes to the first one, but it is best to first ask permission from the person, because i believe they wont add it on, or take it down if the original author demands it...as for the 2nd one, i honestly don't know
The first one, it's legal but only if you get their permission. Try to contact them in some way before releasing it; only when you can't contact them at all is it alright if you just credit them in the readme. As for the second, I'm not so sure, but it seems a little more questionable. Again, try to contact the author first before doing anything.
Give credit, preferably get permission.
If it's from another game, that involves ripping and recompiling, so make sure to get their permission before even trying in that case.
I don't know how, and I don't know why, but this is totally Sheep's fault.
