I have good news. You can open the pk3 such as the assets without useing pakscape. What you do is Right-click on a .pk3 and go to "Open With" and you should get a opioan of thing you want it to be change. if its no your list and it shoudl be there, change it to a Comprassed (folders) zip. When thats done, you can now double click on the .pk3 and it'll open up. For the assets it might take a minuite or two put it'll be open as well. You can't edit in it tho. You'l have to copy the file in the pk3 and put them some where else.

I hope this helped

OK LOOK PEOPLE, I am trying to do something very easy, or at least according to every tut. that I have read. But nobody has addressed it as far as telling me how, they just say you can. I want to turn off a texture or surface in a model, and turn another one on. All that I can find is it can be done from the model_default skin file. Ok but what do i need to add to it. Please and Thank you.

To turn surfaces off, you simple replace the texture path with *off

Yes you did, and T/Y again. Still i wanted to add this note, I now need a tutorial for writting a .surf file for J/A. And please to all don't tell me to read these forums because if one is here I cant find it. please just point me to it or email me or just post it here in this section as I think this is the right place for it. Again please and thank you in advance.:bawl:

Inyri ForgeDidn't look very hard, did you? surfoff "surfacename" surfon "surfacename" To turn a surface on, make a file and put the above in. Obviously if you're not turning anything off, leave out the surfoff line. The surface name must be exactly how it appears in the model or it won't work. Save this (from notepad) and "model_default.surf".

Thank you Inyri Forge I'll let you know what happens

You can also change the extension from .pk3 to .zip. This will also let you edit files from inside the pk3. On XP, to view the file extensions, go to tools>folder options>view and remove the checkmark for "Hide Extensions for Known File Types." When you're done with the pk3, don't forgot to change the file extension back to pk3 or the file won't run. Also, is the link in the beginning of the thread ever going to be replaced?

Go into setup > game options and make sure 'Force Player Models' and 'Defer Player Models' are both off. Also, some of these tutorials are excellent. I downloaded gmax almost 3 years ago to play around with as I was applying for a graphic design job, and haven't touched it since, so I think I'll try and actually make something. Something other than the mace and the robot from the help file, anyway.
