Here's how I am seeing things: Players want a JK4 - JK3 left them hanging, and they want more. We all want more, but unfortunately, that's probably not going to happen via raven or lucasarts or activision any time soon, if ever. At jk3files, we have an extensive set of modders, coders, mappers, skinners, modelers, etc. In short, we have what we need to make a JK4 ourselves. That's what I plan on doing. We will pick up where JA left off, and finish the story for both light and dark sides, and bring happiness to players everywhere. At least, that's the plan.

This plan is doomed before it can even start if I don't have help - this is simply too large an undertaking for one person. So I'm calling on every modder, coder, mapper, modeler, skinner, or whatever you call yourself to help. I'm working on getting a forum up and running to administrate the entire organization - we'll also need some Star Wars experts to verify the facts in the plot I will be writing.

Interested? Please, post here. I want to get this party started.

This thread again. (See: Eltran, EoD, etc) This is maybe the third/fourth time someone has tried this 'gathering' thing. Sorry, but I don't think this will work out as you envision it.

On a side note, being industry-oriented, programmers should start the project as a 'prototype'. Once a reasonable product comes out of the prototype phase, you collaborate with artists to produce a working game. This game then goes through art-lock/alpha where your core features are determined, implemented, and your game is rather/very buggy. During alpha, you produce a playable game, still with some bugs. Then you enter the feared beta stage, where you iron out said bugs and produce a market-grade game that can be published. After the final product, you can support the game and provide patches, or begin work on another title.

Basically, artists have a lot of imagination and inspiration and all these wonderful ideas. You need the programmers to work on a prototype, and if it's good, then you begin work on a major project. Until I see a damn good prototype, I don't think a project of this scale is feasible.

Sorry, but that's how it works. Always has. Your idea isn't wrong, but I've seen this a few times now.

I never believed I was the only person to have the idea or to try it, but I do believe I'll be the first to succeed. As for the technical aspects, I plan on debugging it as one would debug anything else - be it a map, skin, model etc. I'll go through it as many times as it takes to make sure everything is right. Thank you for your input - I'm sure a lot of people have seen this a few times now, but after this, they hopefully won't see it again (unless it's for a jk5...) Feasible or not, I'm going to at least give it a good shot.

For now, I just need people with skills to contribute that may be interested. I want to know if there are enough people willing to give up time and effort to make this work before I set everything into motion.

The unfortunate part lies in all of the coders being preoccupied. I've been trying to 'train up' more coders, but those proficient enough to do good work on this project are already busy. Maybe that will change in the future.

You have a mature approach, and obvious determination that doesn't quite blind you. (IE: TFU obsessed fanboy wanting more than he can handle) That being said, good luck with this, I hope people have fun working with you on it. :)

For those that may or may not join in, don't let my judgment sway your decision - this is about fun =p

wtf do you need coding for this for? This sounds like an SP mod. MP -- eh well, add a few maps I guess.

Aside from the fact, you can't just whip up a team and expect things to be done. You have to do some work to attract people in, etc. I can give you (ie let you look off of and take notes of) a few beta maps that I did a while back, but I'm not even close to being a mapper. I'm having an irritable time with JK as it is, so don't expect me to be of much help.

Also, where are you getting "Jedi Betrayal" from? Is this a piece of something that you've written up, or just an irrelevant thread title? Sounds interesting.

The title was completely made up, it's a working title - I wanted to make something look official, because I don't have anything to show yet. I'm working on writing the individual missions right now, I plan on delegating out assignments to mappers (of which we'll hopefully have enough), etc. We'll see where things go from there.

And yes, this is an SP mod to add more missions, more gameplay, more fun, not to mention cleaning up that hanging plot jk3 left us with.

Snipeye what are you going to contribute to the team? You can't just be a writer, project manager, and beta tester. No one will work for/with you. You need to be able to cover at least one portion of the work load. I feel that you should be familiar with all aspects of modding JA in order to help pick up slack where needed.

I've worked with a sp team where the leader was a mapper and was learning to model to support his team. That was the only reason I even considered the project.
