Ok, I know how to model, uv map and such but I can't find an xsi exporter for 3ds Max 9. I've tried finding one that would work, but no luck. If anyone does have one or knows where to get one it would help. Thanks.

hm... the actual problem is... there's none -.- but since you got this far without problems (cuz its first post and u already went throug modeling, uvmaping and weighting) then you can without doubts weight on XSI mod tools... meaning... take your model, select your mesh export into obj/3ds, import into mod tools and weight (again, sorry, since the exporters dont export weighting). there's a link to download XSI mod tools on the stickes and there's a skeleton for xsi there too. Pretty sure you'll be fine ;3

If you don't want to weight the model again, simply get your hands on a copy of max 8 or ask somebody who has it.

There is a hook tho. Max 8 can't read most of the stuff from max 9 (f.i. to 8, the regular .max-files from 9 are practically written in a long-lost sanskrit dialect) and most export-formats in max generally don't keep the weighting, so you have to find a format that can export everything somewhat acceptably (probably .fbx will work tho). Whether you follow Manganiac's suggestion or try this, it's work either way, but at least there's a chance you don't have to re-weight if you transfer your work to max 8.

I believe 3DS Max 7 is most commonly said to be the optimal version for iD Tech 3 games due to having the greatest concentration of relevant plugins. Used to use Max 8 myself, couldn't get any of the plugins I needed.

I don't know how, and I don't know why, but this is totally Sheep's fault.

A shame that might be a bit late for you, Kouen, but maybe someone else can use 'em.

I have used mod tool before but its so hard to get the right weights.. 3ds max takes alot less time. Also my 3ds max crasheda and did something to the model file... It fails to load it. I might find 3ds max 7 some where though.

Wait, so there is no way to get Max 9 to model for JA? Come on, there has to be! Don't kill my modeling plans before they even start. :(

Can't you export max 9 files as .xsi? I'm sure you have to be able to do that! If not, Time to take those XSI mod tool tutorials...
