Okay, so I wanted to do a couple things with my new map and was hoping you guys could answer some questions with a few links or answers. 1) Anyone know a site where I can download sound effects and use them in my map for free? 2) Can I make it so that when the player runs into a TRIGGER brush a bunch of birds or bats fly out of nowhere (But in front) of the player? Like out of a cave rushing toward him then fly away or disappear? 3) Any places where I can get free textures to use in my map? Edit: 4) Can I make animals walk around my map and use sound effects? 5) Can I make it so that sound effects only loop and trigger on when in a certain area? 6) Can I make those sound effects quieter as I walk farther away? 7) I need Cow, Dog, Cat, Sheep, Chicken, Rooster, Owl, Crow, Bat, and maybe more -- NPC's to walk/fly around. Even one of these would be great to figure out how to do. Thanks so much for your help guys, Google hasn't been very nice to me lately.

mmm two crappy sites found on google...

textures NOCTUA Graphics Website

sounds FindSounds - Search the Web for Sounds

Anyway textures ( except for some real metal or wood textures ) is better if you make them yourself, you can take some pictures with a camera and edit them so they work ok if you repeat them, or you can mix brushes and colors and make some cool hand made textures...

You can make good tileable textures with a program called "texture maker"

Search for "Freesound project" for good quality free sounds.

Aika;4150034 2) Can I make it so that when the player runs into a TRIGGER brush a bunch of birds or bats fly out of nowhere (But in front) of the player? Like out of a cave rushing toward him then fly away or disappear? 4) Can I make animals walk around my map and use sound effects? 5) Can I make it so that sound effects only loop and trigger on when in a certain area? 6) Can I make those sound effects quieter as I walk farther away? 7) I need Cow, Dog, Cat, Sheep, Chicken, Rooster, Owl, Crow, Bat, and maybe more -- NPC's to walk/fly around. 2) Yes, you could. There are several ways making that, but I'd make it through triggering an *.efx-file (using big particles with birds/bats which don't loop) 4) Well.. I think you are thinking too much of details right now. Maybe you could make an animal as a vehicle.. but it will stand still, so you could make it a model anyways. I don't think you can do exactly what you want. Btw. What do you mean with sound effects? Sound effects for the animals? 5) Well, a target_speaker should only be heard in the area you put it, (unless you give it properties to be heard all over the map) and can be triggered anywhere.. with a trigger... ofcource. 6) If you use target_speaker then it should fade out when you walk away from it. It will not be heard at all through structural brushes. 7) You could make them like this: Cow, Sheep, Chicken, Dog, Cat, Owl (unless it's flying), Rooster = still model (*.md3) Crow, Bat, Any birds = A brush as a func_rotating with a origin brush placed somewhere else, so that it move up in the sky. You got too big expectations of the possibilities. Think of the details last.

iswer: Thanks so much that's a great help. I know it's gonna be long and hard but I need to know these things BEFORE I make the map. ;) So I can make stables, ranches, famrs, etc. and know where to put things. Okay so that's a no to moving animals except birds...that's fine. Can I just use them as map objects that stand still? Maybe that person will find out how ot make animated map models...whatever his name was...*Forgot* I meant have animal sound effects like the animals making noises, whyining, crying, eating, communicating, etc. Isla: Thanks! That's great! How would I edit them to make them tilable?

if you have Photoshop, crop out a area you want for the texture, making it pretty much square. Then adjust it to the nearest power of 2, usually it ends up being closer to 512. Now, go to Filter>Other>Offset, and type 256 as the height (if the image turns out to be 512) and hit ok. Now, use the Clone Brush to paint over the seam. Once it looks seamless, hit Filter, and just click the Offset option in the space reserved for the last filter used. Itll set the image back to normal. Now go to Filter>Other>Offset again, zero out the height value, and put 256 for the width. Now, do the same thing. To be safe, just open up the Offset dialog again and put 256 in one, then the other, with Preview on to see if theres any seams you created while smoothing out them out. Also, its crucial that Wrap Around be checked in the Offset dialog. Theres also an unessecarily complicated way that involves copy pasting the ends onto each other, and blending those copied pieces with the original texture. Its innefficient and takes much longer.
