So, I just got a new computer with vista, and after installing radiant 1.4 and working for awhile on a map file, I tried to save and got the error message "couldn't open (map location) No brushes selected for write. Not wanting to lose several hours worth of work, I renamed the autosave file to the map name, which then let me save the map normally again, and also let me open it just fine the next day. For the next room of my map, it created another autosave file, and I renamed that one as well. After working on several rooms using this process, and without any other problems with radiant, I tried to compile some and while a .bsp was created according to the editor, I couldn't find it in my /maps folder and the game wouldn't devmap it. I didn't worry too much about it because I thought I could just compile on my older computer. Later, I noticed that the only time when the maps I was working were visible in /maps was when I was opening a file from radiant; from my computer /maps was empty except for the examples. So after trying everything I could possibly think of, I can still only open those files from radiant, and otherwise they don't even seem to exist. Does anyone know how I can get them to show up in /maps so I can transfer them to another computer? I'd hate to lose all that work.
If you're trying to open something in that folder, make sure you have, "show all files" on.
Second, don't ever use Vista on a gaming machine, I screws up everything you try to do with pop up adds and register links, plus the actual operating system is kinda funky. So in other words, it is likely that vista could be causing this problem.
But other than those two things, I'm clueless.
Thread TitleMassive radiant 1.4 problem
Try other versions of radiant. 1.4 is, well, outdated.
Naturally after suffering with this for two days I figure something out 2 hours after I post. Radiant was apparently storing the files is some location other than /maps and telling me they were in /maps but i found them in some random file after searching my computer. I still can't save new files or compile on this computer, but at least I can keep using the autosave trick and transfer the files to my old one. Damn you vista. I just couldn't resist Crysis...
you have to use 1.5 if you map with Vista :) 1.4 has not vista support
