How do i split a saber up into different meshes but have them connect in game

You don't, you split it into different objects within a single mesh.

Really hard to give you instructions w/o knowing what software you're using. With regards to the second half of your question, as long as the pieces are all within the same model file they should all appear in-game.

kk because i have a high poly saber but i use blender then transfer to gmax

If it's the saber I'm thinking of, you really should learn to model efficiently before shoving things in the ugly way.
