I downloaded a Jan skin by Plasma for JK2, but it doesn't work well with JK3. The legs and the arms are there, but the torso is off. This is also true for other Jan skins I've tried. Can anyone help me fix this?

Illegally porting materials between games is a big no-no. :cort:

"Illegally porting materials"? I'm not so sure what you're trying to say...

I mean, all I want to do is use that skin in JA. I still use some JO models for JA...so what about skins, then? If anyone can just tell me what to do to fix this, I'll just do it myself.

"Porting" is the art of taking resources from one game and putting them in the other. It's illegal, and it's a direct breach of the EULA you agreed to when you installed the game. And yes, porting between JK2 and JKA is illegal - LucasArts have confirmed this several times.

One of the rules of these forums, and the entire network, is not to discuss anything illegal, hence the term "big no-no".

Uhm....it's a player-made skin he's trying to ''port'' over,in the sense of putting the textures from tha player-made skin onto the Jedi Academy version of the Jan model, which I assume is just fine if you have permission from the author. But if he doesn't,that author owns the ''property'' of the model,so it would technically be illegal in a sense.

In any case, with what you described,double-check your .skin file to make sure it matches up the names of the image files used.

hold on a sec, from what u say kouen, wouldn't that mean that using a downloaded jk2 skin or model in jka would be illigal? because thats kinda what Silver_Cross is trying to do, he just downloaded a Jan SKIN, that is NOT a game resource, and he wants to use it in jka. ok, Silver, u just need to either just copy the texture and skin files alone and just the jka version of the jan model, or u need to compare the jka jan textures to the jk2 jan ones and see which are different, then correct it via cut + paste

I remember hearing people say that they had that torso problem with some plasma skins even when using it in jk2.

In such a scenario, only the original creator of a mod has any rights to port it.

Well, really, I'm just going to use it as a personal thing, since I'm currently modding my JA with as much FF/Non-Star Wars stuff. I've currently done music mods, and am using the existing FF7:AC mod. I'm not planning on releasing any stuff not made by me...probably just the SP music mod I made.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I'll get to work on that fix.

I now understand what you're talking about, Sir Kouen, but I'm just going to keep the modification to myself. If any of you guys were wondering, the skin in question is the Silent Whisper skin by Plasma...it's a skin based on FF9's Garnet.

Oh, and one last question. Does that mean that the 'JK2 to JA MP Maps Mod' is illegal? I mean, sure he only includes a small part and lets the user's copy of JO do the rest, but that's still technically porting, right? I'm confused...

In the readme of every mod it says at the very bottom that all credit goes to Lucasarts so technicly they own all of the skins, models, maps, ect... I think.
