Alright, I'm a complete noob to modeling. I needed to know how to model using a pic, like for a lightsaber. Taking a picture of a lightsaber, and making a model. Also, I wanted to use an existing player model and change the head and hands for another species. What do I need to do. So far, all I've done, is, using 3ds max, deleted the old head and hands, and put the hands and head where they should go. Do they need to be capped? What steps should I take, and do I have to do UVW mapping, or can I use the existing UVW mapping. The head I'm using also already has been UVW mapped, but do I have to redo that for my model.

You neew to re-weight the mesh back to the skeleton, and no you dont need to re-UVW map it if you want to use the same textures

If you make a lightsaber you don't need much to do, it's pretty simple. For the modeling part of it, what software are you using?
