I was working with DarthTyranus (or whatever he's going by these days) and he was complaining about how mouth movement isn't possible in JA without scripting it in. It got me thinking, of course, because I always like a good puzzle. We considered binding a speaking animation to the taunt, which unfortunately simply functioned to place the character in an awkward root pose, however I wasn't about ready to give up.

So to get to the point, I did come up with something. It's awkward, and slightly tedious, but it's fully functional for serious filmers who want mouth movements for their dialogue. The mouth movements depend on the in-game taunts, so I found the easiest way to get the mouth movements with a certain animation was to bind that animation to both a saber stance and that stance's taunt. Of course this'll mess with any battles you want to film, so they'd have to be filmed separately. By my estimation you can either bind 4 or 5 animations (for speaking) at once, depending on whether or not red stance has a unique taunt from blue and yellow: blue stance, red stance (maybe?), yellow stance, dual stance, and staff stance.

In case you wanted an example of what this would look like with some sample animations I compiled a short video which you can find below. It features speaking animations for yellow stance, a standing pose, and a sitting pose. The first two make use of an invisible lightsaber so it looks like the player is holding nothing. I'd have done the same for the third but I hadn't gotten around to it, and my "invisible saber" is slightly flawed yet... :p

Anyway, I thought some of our resident filmers might find this interesting.

I'm not sure I understand the whole Inyri's post, but I just want to say, that I did something similar to achieve mouth movement. The default taunts fully allow the mouth movement. But of course it looks silly when a character in a film flourishes with his saber everytime he speaks. So I just turn on the noclip mode and then hit the taunt key, so that my player moves only his mouth, not his hands or body. I record that and then I have to turn noclip off and on again to speak once more - I sort of reload the noclip. Of course there is much work to be done in a video editor after that, to suit the dialogs with the lips movement. It isn't possible to perform mouth movement during a fight, only in static situations, but it's still quite effective.

That's handy for single-player filming, but for multiplayer that would mean always having a server with cheats loaded.
