okay, I've got my music for my map: Krazoa Palace

It's the same Krazoa Palace music you can get from Starfox Adventures (find the .mp3 files on Arwinglanding.net)

Anywho, it isn't working with me. I renamed the krazoapalace.mp3 to kp.mp3 and moved it to a folder named "music" in my Base folder for easy access.

Ingame, my worldspawn says:

Key: music Value: music/kp.mp3

I made it up in Pakscape with these four folders:

Levelshots - - - Maps - - - Music - - - Scripts

I copied kp.mp3 and put it into the Music folder, along with the necessities for my other folders (my levelshot, .bsp file and .arena file)

Someone help me to find out why it isn't working?

If so, please tell me how to CHECK certain fields that need to be met.

I always put my music in music/mymap/kp.mp3, where mymap would be your map name. It shouldn't make a difference the way you have it set up though. Also, it has to be sampled at 4410 Hz, 128 kps (you can go higher, but it's not necessary and only adds to file size) and should be in stereo. You should be able to check all of these parameters in whatever music program you use, I know you can do it in itunes by right clicking on a song and go to the Get Info command. If it is not sampled correctly, you'll need to get a sound editing program such as GoldWave (Google it for a freeware or shareware version) or another sound editing program and make sure you resample the mp3 to have the attributes listed above.

Yes, Ayala is right, the mp3 file needs to be at 44,100 hz, and like he said you can have a variable bit rate, I normally choose 96 kbs.

Though there is one thing you forgot to mention, Ayala, that is that music files usually need to be Stereo. Now, that is different for sounds on a target_speaker which need a Mono file.

And GoldWave is a very good free program for small editing like this :P

GoldWave isn't free, it requires you to pay a registration fee.

If all you need an audio editor for is resampling, Wavepad is free and has all the functions you need. It's stuck up there in the Tutorials & Tools thread.


I don't know how, and I don't know why, but this is totally Sheep's fault.

Hey Mace...I think I mentioned it has to be in stereo, but maybe I wasn't clear and thanks for correcting me, I had 4410 Hz, whereas I should have put 44100 Hz.

You can get a full evalution version of GoldWave but they ask you to pay a registration fee after you have tried it.

Try this real quick. Make sure you're music is entered into the worldspawn (not a target speaker). Next, when you load up your map, make sure to type "sv_pure 0" (without quotes) before you load the map.

I had this same problem were music wasn't working for me. Turns out that I simply had "pure server" on whenever I was testing it. Which turns off everything in you're base folder except for the maps folder and .pk3's.

That Might fix it, dunno if it will though.

dunno how to check for 44,100. I'm using Windows Media Player, any ideas?

@DP: Gunna try that now, but this has happened even when I had my arena file in and done Create a Game... w/e
