I'm a huge fan of the StarFox series, almost as much as Star Wars- it'd be a dream if I could model/skin characters based off of SFX into JA- but for now, I'm content with its music.

That said, I tried to change some the music files for Jedi Academy with some of the music from StarFox Assault. To a degree, it worked well enough for one or two instances, particularly in multiplayer duel and during the T2_Wedge mission. And it did work with T1_rail, as well, but here's where things started getting confusing.

I started by putting a high-quality MP3 file of the StarWolf theme to replace the music there. I got an error message saying ""Source File not sampled @ 44100!" When I tried doing the T2_dpred with other pieces of music, the same error message occured, which included another error message saying "Dynamic music did not have both 'Action' and 'Explore' versions, inhibiting...

Here's the thing, though. I replaced the T1_rail music with a lower-quality version of the Starwolf theme. One that would make anyone's ears bleed. -.- But it worked, at least.

My questions are these- is there a certain format needed? Do I need to do something else to replace the music fully? Does the file size need to be a certain size?

Any help would be appreciated.

my guess you'd need to match the sampling rate, eg 22000, 44000, 48000, and i'm sure the sound has to be stereo, cause sometimes mono makes game yell at you, rather then that i don't think the kbps has anyhting to do with it.

VBR is Variable Bit Rate. Not necessary at all.

JKA music MP3s have to be saved as 44100Hz, stereo, and preferably 128kbps bit rate.

VBR is nothing to do with it, and in fact, you're better off not using variable bit rates, since they just pump the filesize, and either do nothing for the sound quality in-game, or decrease it.

I don't know how, and I don't know why, but this is totally Sheep's fault.

Erm, no, menu music and the music you hear in the levels are formatted exactly the same.

Also note how I said 128kbps is preferable, but not mandatory. Any higher bitrate just increases the size of the file, and in Jedi Academy, it won't increase the quality one little bit, so it's basically pointless. Same with variable bit rates, they do nothing to improve the quality, and even lower it at times, but you're still making your MP3s unnecessarily bigger by using it.

For something you'll play in Winamp, sure. For something you're using in Jedi Academy, might as well forget the fancy stuff.

I'm using winrar to open the PK3 files, and so far it's been working. I'm getting a friend to change up the sample rate to 44100. I didn't tell him to change the bitrate, though. Doesn't matter as much to me, and he could do it if necessary.

Incidentally, if I wanted to add music to the menu, what would I do?
