Im currently redoing the death star map and it's gone well so far until i hit a problem involving the force field in the hanger... all im getting there is a view of the void behind it? How can i fix this?
The problem is with VIS and portaling. I assume you're fairly new to mapping - most newer mappers don't understand what VIS is until they hit a glitch or a limitation.
To fix it: Select all force field brushes in your map, and hit Ctrl + M. This will make them detail - they won't block the visibility to the rest of the map any more.
Rule of thumb: Anything that's not a skybox, wall, floor or ceiling should be made detail. Make SURE glass and force fields are detail.

If it's a custom/modified texture, check the link in my signature for info on that.
If that fails, check the console for an error message.
no error message and its not a custom texture either. theres only a skybox behind it and i want it so no-one can go through it
What texture is it?
If you don't want people going through it, you could also use clip or physics_clip to block it off.
it's fixed now so problem solved.
now i have encountered another problem...the skybox behind the force field isnt showing and i have tried everything i could think of but still no result...
