I'm sick of not having a list like this at my disposal, so I'll go ahead and list all the valid texture dimensions:

  • 16
  • 32
  • 64
  • 128
  • 256
  • 512
  • 1024
  • 2048
  • 4096
  • 8192
  • 16384
  • 32768
  • 65536
  • 131072
  • 262144
  • 524288
  • 1048576

I stopped after that, because all the image editing software I could find could not go any higher in dimensions.

Enjoy. :)

Can you have 2^0 (1)?

I didn't think of that, but I don't see why you can't (or want to )

It might be useful if you wanted a flat color and a small file size.

I didn't realize multiplication tables were so difficult (fyi for this engine you'd never really need to go above 1024, tops).

I'm sure someone did absolutely massive textures (for better detail, I guess) in the region of 4096x4096 and beyond.

I'm not sure whether it's worth all the extra effort, but I'm no expert.

It's so not necessary. Do you know how big a texture that is? Biggest map I've ever painted was 2048^2 and it's way too big.

That was NAB622.

Large textures are great for terrain.

By the way, remove 1, 2, 4, and 8. The Quake engine won't load them. I have tested it. Solid colors still have to be 16x16 images.

Aye, it did vex me why Raven used 16x16 in their 'colors' texture folder, but Pande explains it here.

That's absurd. Can't imagine why they'd do that. :/
