Hello, it is me again. This time, I'm working on an Old Republic Soldier from KotOR. He is a Rebel reskin, and that brings up a problem: His vest! I've tried removing the torso_vest and hips_vest in the skinfile, and even added a surf file. But alas, it does not work. If someone has a way to remove the vest without that gaping hole in the model, I'd really appreciate it. Thank You! Maverick

Short of redoing the model to patch up that hole, your options are limited to.... well.... redoing the model to patch up that hole.

I don't know how, and I don't know why, but this is totally Sheep's fault.

You sure? That's what a friend of mine, Cacktus, was told the same thing about the Rodian's vest. Lady Forge seems to have fixed that problem. I don't perticularly want to redo the entire MODEL! So, SURFs won't work, eh?

The Rodian isn't the Rebel.

From my "looking into" the Rodian, there's actually something there underneath the vest on that model. Can't say I've looked too in-depth at the Rebel, but a cursory examination shows that unlike the Rodian, the "under the vest" bits were never modelled in the first place.

Modelling isn't like mapping, it is generally much more efficient, but also much harder to change little details like that. If you went to the extreme of removing the vest, you mine as well either modify the rebel to better fit what you need, or make a new model altogether.

I pulled the model into ModView last night, and I found there was a mesh under the vest. It's called "torso_augment_off" and if you turn that part on in the skin file, it should work.

Could you possibly post how you did that? By that, I mean the .skin paths? Thanks!

the same way it is down with the vestless rodian, using a .surf file will let you see it in game and changing the torso_augment_off on in modview will allow you to see it modview.

Cool, didn't know the rebel had one of those. And dang, now I'm getting mod ideas.

I'm not entirely sure how to do it; I just turned the parts on/off in ModView. But here's a tutorial that'll show you how it's done: link. It's slightly more complex than just the .skin file.
