I'd like to get rid of the colored blob of light at the base of a saber blade, so that I'm left with only a white saber core and a thin stripe of colored glow around it. Thing is, that blob is the same tga file that's used to create the glow, so it's not a matter of simply putting in a blank file (as that leaves me with the white saber core but no glow). So how can I get rid of it?

I doubt it is possible unless you modify the code to make it so the glow is divided in sections.

i don't think many people have done that. you'd have to find the appropriate shader in the 'base' pk3s of JA, extract that and change it, then pack it in a separate pk3 with the same hierarchy as the original inside the base file. But before you start looking I suggest you look at the different types of shaders for Quake 3 first, and study the concept of shaders a bit. *shrugs* That's all I can say.
