Using Virtues Saber Tutorial, I've spent most of my day today trying to unwrap and skin a saber Im making. I got it once but it was ugly and I was VERY displeased. Not to mention I had to skin using paint! Could someone unwrap and skin this simple little saber for me? Its just a simple saber that Im going to use to overwrite the reborn sabers in SP. I plan on having it for personal use only. I can do everything but unwrap and skin. This saber was made using Gmax 1.2. I've included the file with all my progress. All is needs is to be unwrapped and skinned. Any help is appreciated.
i cant skin very well but there are easyer ways to unwrap then vertue tells. select the parts of the saber and do modifiers>uv coordinates>uvw map and go down to parameters and check "cylindrical" and next to it "cap" then u can unwrap it and rearange/resize. that should work fine for this saber. as for skinning i cant help ya.
Ok I unwrapped it, applied my skin, saved as an md3. now, in md3view when I try to load my .skin file, it says "texture models/weapons2/saber_reborn.jpg" not found. my .skin file looks like this: saber_w,models/weapons2/saber_reborn/saber_w.jpg
my saber_w.jpg is in the right place and its 512x512. any ideas? also, I did remember to rename the cylinder01 to saber_w.
hmm... does the jpg file name in the .skin match the actual jpg?
Yep. I've checked and re-checked probably 50 times now. I read that the only thing to do is to start over...
Whenever I try it with any method, I can't comprehend its shape in the UVW unwrap thing
I typed something wrong earlier. The error is: "texture models/weapons2/saber_reborn/saber_w.jpg" not found
Is the .jpg in the same folder?
I was having the same problems. Mine was in C:\, so I added that in the .skin file and it worked
Ok thanks! I got it to work, untill I try to choose it that is. It says I cannot have more than 1000 verts on a surface and that I have 1346. Well, I checked in gmax. I have 246 verts....
