First of all i'd like to say that i already used the search engine with several kinds of txt and no the few shader tutorials don't get me anywhere + oooh isn't this like..my first post in this forum while i've been using this website since.....forever? :eek:

Edit: Ok guess this wasn't my first post :O. But my last one and probably the only topic i ever made was back in 2008 XD. ------------------------------------

I'm trying to learn more about 'easy to do' shaders. And with easy to do i mean simple to make/apply

I already know of the Glow shader,Lightning shader ,Holo shader, and a clanmate will show me how use a leather shader soon.

My question is: Are there more shaders that are easy to apply or perhaps need a bit of editing in photoshop(just like the glow and holo one)? Main interest would be something nice for armor but anything would do as i'm learning about the 'simple' shaders :) (I'm not into crazy creating wich requires other programs than photoshop).

Usually when I tell people to read this ( Q3A Shader Manual ) I get a response along the lines of "OMG, too hard, I can't do it!". These people are known as idiots.

Anywho, I'm hoping you'll fare a little better, since you seem to have already done some experimentation of your own. Just go through and compare it against a few references (base JKA's shaders, for example) and it should tell you pretty much everything you need to know.

I wonder what Ashura and that did with the 'shader library' Seems like a great resource that should be worked on.

That is exactly the Manual i didn't want to see.

Not to say that i'm 1 of those idiots but that manual is pretty much about creating those things from scratch.

what i was talking about are shaders you need LESS work from (like it was with the glow and holo shader since thats pretty much editing a file in photoshop and copy/pasting something from the players.shader file.

hope that helped a little >.

Ahh, I see what you're talking about, unfortunately I only know how to do that for SoF2 shaders, but seeing as how they use the same engine it shouldn't differ too much.

A mod I made using, that gives the colt 45 a chrome texture, is set up similar to what you're thinking I believe; I hope this helps:

models/weapons/m1911a1/m1911a1 { q3map_nolightmap q3map_onlyvertexlighting { map models/weapons/m1911a1/m1911a1 blendFunc GL_SRC_ALPHA GL_ONE_MINUS_SRC_ALPHA depthWrite rgbGen lightingDiffuse } { map models/weapons/m1911a1/m1911a1_spec blendFunc GL_SRC_ALPHA GL_ONE depthWrite detail alphaGen lightingSpecular } { map models/weapons/chrome.jpg blendfunc gl_dst_color gl_src_color rgbGen identity tcGen environment detail } }

ShaderED2. It was included with the SDK for a reason. If it runs, use it. It's buggy, but you can visually edit shaders with a fair amount of accuracy.

So many tools need to be rewritten :/

Do you know if MD3viewer applies shaders? 'cause eh, I'm currently writing an MD3 parser and renderer for my portfolio, I might add shader support later if anyone wants it. From there, I should be able to work with Didz on a graphical shader editor ala ShaderEd2 <_

I think it does, yes, but I only used it once or twice, so don't take my word for it.

And a new shader editing program would really help. We need some serious shaders4newbs tools/tutorials.
