has there ever been an attempt to make the single player not end? like, you become a student that wanders the academy and goes on mission when he or she want to?

That would require a whole bunch of new maps and I'm sure a nice chunk of coding. I'm also sure that anyone who has played JA didn't like the story anywhere near enough to keep it going, worst of the series IMO.

Free roam, been able to allways go back to the academy's map by the end of each mission and pick another one from there (possibly picking the same mission too). (Like Stark's tower on Marvel Aliance 2 or the cantina in Star Wars Lego)

Like Minilogo said, would require at least a new academy map and some deal of coding. Could be done tho...

Used to be a fan of free roam, today I find the "post-credit save and begin new game with your previows equipment" signifcantly more enjoyable, I'm oddly more likely to replay a game if I have to go through the whole experience again, free roam feels too empty. Yes, I realise it's a matter of personal taste xP

and it also requires the legally unattainable single player source code

Well... You can make something like a never ending single player, basicly you just copy the quest idea from MMORPGs :P

1. Get a server (not one of these free webspaces services, a real server) and install stuff for a development community

-> SVN/Git - all the stuff related to the project need to store somewhere -> Apache/Cherokee - you need a website to tell the people about the project and a forum to offer communication

2. Setup a IRC Channel at a network like quakenet.org or aloria.net, because chatting is much better than posting.

As soon as you have finished those both points you have a platform to gather people....

3. Get mapper with singleplayer-modding experience 4. Get modeler for map_objects, new characters 5. Get people with Photoshop/GIMP experience to overwork the whole graphic 6. Get scrippter with ICARUS experience to make the maps sp-workable 7. Get people with shader experience to add professional looking shaders 8. Get people to write a script, whats the action? what will happen? where is the storyline. 9. Get people which borrow their voice to the characters or you get some programmer which will develop a small little program to move the frequence of voices to "generate" new ones or to imitate old ones (like kyle katarn)

The best way to do a map would be making teams :D

Team 1: Story Writer (could be also done by the community)

Team 2: Character Creator (voices, drawing characters, modeling, skinning, weighting)

Team 3: Map Development ( drawing map, mapping, shadering, modeling, skinning )

Team 4: SP Development (this part is the most important because here you will make a really new singleplayer mission, mainly done by ICARUS-experienced scrippter)

Team 1 creates a story together with Team 2. Based at this result Team 3 will create a Map which will be "sp-ized" by Team 4.

Its really important that you create a small tool, which allows the community to update their sp-missions...

Just store the *.pk3 files in a special folder outside JKA and copy the selected episode in the /GameData/$mod/ folder so you can handle multiple episodes ;)

It is pretty easy but you need to spend much money and time and to be honest... most of us have a real life or important projects. For me as exmaple I'm working on serveral projects, I'm married and have two wonderful daughters...

If ya have the money and the time so do it ;)

Well, you could make several giant maps (very big) and post some npc's in there.

e.g: Make a giant map of Tatooine, place a lot of npc's, then, when you go to an npc (who's static, stays at the same place, like cafetaria or house, etc...), and press on "use", you'll be teleported to another map where you got objectives and clear them. Once you've finished these objectives, you go back to tatooine.

To put some variety, I'd also put other giant maps like Coruscant (WITH the Jedi Temple). Each map could be linked to another by a portal or such, where you have to load the other map... no ?

But I guess it's just too hard. Gave my idea =p.

Good luck tho !
