Could someone explain how to take two textures such as a grass texture and do a smooth transition into a rock or metal texture? Thank You! ;)

Make an in-between texture with both? In Metroid Prime, there is a massive Space Pirate base in Phendrana Drifts. Naturally, just a door in seems a little unnaturall. So, what they did was they went and created an in-between area where there was a snowy cave, then some of their high-tech stuff showed up near the door with a nice, smooth transition. However, since my rental ran out, I can't get screenshots.

My method is that you have the technology section leading to the entrance partially covered wit plant-like growth, like grass or snow or dust, depending on the location.
