I'm going to try my hand at weapon modelling. Again.

The bad point - I'm still using Milkshit 3D.

The neutral point - I can't possibly do worse than "Siberian Gladius". (And, looking back, I can't help but laugh like hell at what must have been going through my mind when I submitted that. I mean, not only did I send the wrong copy, but even the good copy sucked!)

The good point - I could get bored and busy myself playing Unreal 2 before I distribute another crap weapon, and prove beyond a doubt that I do, indeed, suck at modelling. :lookaround:

Anyway, this one actually looks like a sword. And, I'm sure Inyri will be glad to hear that since she doesn't have to beat me over the head with JPGs of what a blade actually looks like, as commented previously. :p (I have to admit, I got quite a few chuckles out of that review.)

For now, I'd just like some constructive crits on the basic shape of the sword, so that I don't go modelling any detail work and go through the pain-in-the-ass process of getting a skinmap from MS3D, only to find out that I majorly fudged the parts that even a little kid could do....

OK, so, here's what I got:

:feedback:

Much appreciated.

(That "gladius"... OMG... I'm never gonna live that one down am I? )

I don't know how, and I don't know why, but this is totally Sheep's fault.

The problem is that there are sooo many gladiuses at jk3files and pcgamemods that people get tired of them.

First thing, the blade looks flat, it needs to have an edge, a sharp edge. In the first picture, the little triangles that are part of the handguard look like they are not connected to the rectangle, I might work on that. Otherwise its a nice looking generic sword.

My reviews are never personal :p.

That looks much better than that God-awful gladius you submitted! Glad to see improvement :p

Definitely work your way up in terms of detail. The more you practice the better you'll get, but don't rush it. Also I'd personally recommend Gmax over MS3D for weapon modelling, but then again I've never used MS3D...

Something looks a little bit funny about the hilt guard, though.

Any practice is good practice. Let him make whatever he wants.

I am aiming for a long sword this time, something a bit... I dunno. Fantasy styled. Thanks for the feedback guys, just wanted to see if it was safe to leave the basic layout and do some detail. Guess I need to do a little work when my computer's back in order.
