As far as I'm aware all you need to do is edit the skin files and rename the folder from vader (Or whatever the model is called) to tavion_new

Nononononono, that's not how you do it.

What you want to be doing, is going into Tavion's NPC file and changing the folder name for the model from tavion_new to vader (or whatever the folder is called).

NPC Tool makes this easy, although it's much better to learn how to edit .npc files with Notepad, since it's much simpler and quicker.

I don't know how, and I don't know why, but this is totally Sheep's fault.

it would also be smart to make your own pk3 and copy the files over there and edit them, instead of editing the npc files directly in the assets :)

Pakscape is what you be needing for that. It's listed in our Tutorials & Tools sticky.

But, if you use NPC tool, I believe it has the option for editing within pk3 files, no?

Yea, if you want the Tavion character file to be Darth Vader instead, you will have to edit Tavion.NPC file. It's quite easy, just open it in notepad. Change where it says Playermodel Tavion to the name of the model (folder name). So find (inside the pk3) where it has models > players > *Darthvader folder*. And take the "DarthVader" folder name and insert it like this... playermodel *DarthVader Folder* ,but without the *'s. EDIT: That will change the playermodel, If you want to change the sounds aswell, or want a better tutorial, PM me.

NPC Editing tutorial ~ Jklover 1. Changing models - First Open up the PK3 in pakscape or other program. Go to ext_data > npcs > and look for the NPC that you want to edit. (If using pakscape, copy to desktop first) Open it up, look for Playermodel *NPC name* now take the npc name, and delete it, and insert the name of the model that you want it to have. EXAMPLE: Playermodel rebel and converted to Playermodel stormtrooper That will take all rebels that are in the NPC script (Notice: I said script because there are usually 2 or more npc's inside one file!) and change them to stormtroopers. 2. Custom Skins - Easy, just go into the Models > Players > *modelname* folder and look for the .SKIN files. Look for one, and they should at least have Model_defualt.SKIN, thats without a custom skin. The rebel also has 2 more .SKIN files. Which are Model_Blue.SKIN and Model_red.SKIN. Lucas Arts made that for Multi-Player. So go into the Rebel.NPC file, and add this line right under Playermodel Rebel. customskin red OR customskin blue and that will change it Red or Blue. 3. Sounds - This one is sort-of complicated. Depending on how you look at it. Like the rest, open the NPC file. Look for these three codes NOTICE: NOT ALL NPCS WILL HAVE 3 OR THEY MIGHT NOT BE RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER, YOU MIGHT HAVE TO DO A LITTLE SEARCHING. Again I'm using the Rebel. snd Rebel sndextra Rebel sndcombat Rebel Snd = Sound (of course). If you want the Rebels to sound like Mercs, Instead of no Sound. (YES, Lucas Arts did NOT put any Sounds for the Rebel Character because you do not see them much In-game.) You would type... snd Human_Merc1 sndextra Human_Merc1 sndcombat Human_Merc1 Notice: You need Underscore's and the 1. Because there is 2 different type of Merc's, there is 2 different sound types. Human_Merc1 and Human_Merc2. So that concludes this tutorial, I will make a better one when I have time.
