Yeah it was a joke. I remember back when i first started reading FF in 07, it was one of the things that kept me from signing up, me thinking this game was dying.

MP is built around a client-server model. There's quite a lot going on behind the MP engine not many see, and it'd have to be entirely reworked to get a make-shift SP SDK.

The main reasons it shouldn't/won't be done:

  • Mod API synchronisation (vmMain + trap calls)
  • Entity and client-server model rework
  • ICARUS
  • Server, client, and UI modules all merged together..ohgod
  • fs_game support (location of jagamex86.dll would probably require a proxy DLL to load the desired mod, adds a few levels of indirection for each vmMain and trap_ call, I believe)
  • etc, it's just not meant to happen

wow. one last attempt i guess. we should all just agree to let it die, and tar-n-feather the next person who asks. man its like giving cpr to a potato. sure thought for a second i had some state of the art rational kikass unthought of epiphany too. somebody burn this thread XD lmao @ "its just not meant to happen"... thats just the cold harsh truth aint it. we should sticky this thread to un-compell anybody else from asking

Given that so much potential has been squandered by the move to not release the singleplayer assets, I'd say that an impressive amount of work has been done with the game. I can see why someone would ask what SP source code is due to most forum veterans citing it as a reason why something impossible in-game would be impossible in-game.

I guess we can try to wait for another action adventure game featuring a sci fi setting with a relatively interesting and varied selection of locales without degenerating into a mindless button mashing fest or purely being a physics tech demo. Carlsberg don't do Star Wars games...

The biggest problem is that LucasArts has the rights over the Jedi Knight series and didn't let Raven release the source code.

I'm sure there won't be any game like Jk but there MUST be :( There are only SP games, like TFU and TFU2, and Battlefront style, but that's sooooo different than JK. I really don't know why they wouldn't like to create a 'JK4', I think many-many people would buy it (me too).
