Not my kind of macabre either, but you should be able to skin it on Lervish's McGyver.

Great ref pic btw. It's much easier to model something that is covered up by a huge animal...

So you and your friend are taking up a project, but you need somebody to make a Steve Irwin model, which you can then skin, but you're no good at skinning anyway so you'd like somebody else to do that as well.

I'm thinking this might be a good model to use: Luke Skywalker - Heir to the Empire, Jedi Knight 3 Downloads, Jedi Knight 3 Star Wars

The hair is decently accurate, and well the body is at least slightly similar. All it needs is a good skinning job and I think you'll get a good result.
