hi all i need a _sun light in my map. and i already used it for another map (where it worked) right now...it just does not cast any light or shadow, and i can't uderstand why. it' just like if it is not there. i have to say map is really big, and i use chopsize 4096.

Sun entities aren't recommended, I think, you should use a light-generating skybox shader instead. But anyway, I can't offer technical assistance as I've never used sun entities, but I know they're frowned upon.

Also if you want to make your own skybox rather than using the base ones Tutorial

ok i did, and it does not work.... what the hell i am doing wrong? _sun 1 does not work anymore! shaders too ! help!
EDIT: after many tests, seems _sun key does not work at all. having or not having it does not do any changes. i seem to have problem with spotlights... even a 999999 light targeted at a info_null does not cast any light. even in a small map (create specifically for the tests).
so what's wrong with spotlights / _sun?
ok i probably isolated the problem.....spotlights do not work at all even a simple spotlight do not make any light. what can be the trouble? how fix it? thanks!
i've confined the problem, this time i'm pretty sure all lies here: with a sky taken from original game (for example bespin sky or vjun sky) the _sun work. with a custom sky (the one i'm using and other i made time ago) it does not work. the shader seems correct, it is in fact a sky, it work well. now the part i'm not good are shaders....in what folder place them, how make game recognize them ecc... i think that displaying sky correctly mean the shader is working, but at this point i'm not so sure...
if someone can help me with that i really appreciate! thanks you all!
EDIT2: i finally tracked down the problem, it was shaderlist.txt not updated properly. i just added my shader name there and it worked! thanks you all anyway!

Try sun instead of _sun
Not sure exactly what was happening with your lights, there...I think you were missing something somewhere. Whatever the case, as long as one method works, that's good.
Skybox lights are a little more realistic because they are more 'ambient' than direct, but honestly, I don't see any reason why you can't use multiple suns to create the same effect. Whichever you're comfortable with should do fine.
