Well, 3D Studio Max is a professional software with a professional price tag.

AutoDesk however stopped supporting Gmax so no updates will follow. You can still get it though from several sites such as here for example.

Then there is Maya (also a proffesional program) which has Maya's "personal learning edition" as the free "try out" version. However AutoDesk bought Maya so it would be "saver" to go for 3ds. However it's your choice, some people just don't like 3ds while others hate Maya.

I tried milkshape 3D - it's trial for 30 days and it's hard to model in it - it's kind of primitive. You can make 3D models in anim8or but you can only export models into 3ds, not textures, not bones, not animations... you can try to crack/hack 3d max (older versions are usually easyer to crack) -I'm just saying this and ain't gonna teach U how to do it on this forum couse it's not legal. (but hey, you get many programs that cost $ for free... lol :naughty:) (ps. If you really like a program - buy it:nodding:)

malrak your obviously unaware of 3ds maxs' complete potential, yes it can be used for video game modeling and animations. the main thing about the program is its ability to make amazing CGI moviesl. you know CGI stuff you see in movies like in SW space battles? this is the kind of program they would use to create all the models, effects and animations. gmax has very little support when it comes to video game modding and milkshape is just :barfs: ahem sorry bout that :P besides people who are CG artists usually have the program given to them by the company they work for and dont actually buy it themselves. this also goes for schools that you go to, theyll issue you a copy of the program to use for your studies. theres also softimage|XSI which can be used for game modding and JA, and it runs like $350. as far as what mike gummelt said was that was the prog they used for all of JAs animations so it has full support for that area. they also have a free version which is called mod tools and that even supports JA because all you need is the .xsi exporter. the ONLY thing milkshape is really good for is weapon modeling and map object modeling and thats it, and this is only because it has the easiest to use .md3 exporter and .qc file generator.

You really shouldn't even be discussing it at all. And to whoever decides to crack/hack software, don't even bother unless you want tons of spyware, keyloggers and Trojans hidden in your downloads. Well, of course 3DS Max is going to be expensive, it's the top of the line modelling software. You really don't need to even look at it unless you intend to make a career out of it.

I don't know how, and I don't know why, but this is totally Sheep's fault.
