i think your the only maya user to be honest (on this forum anyway). so you might have to learn on your own. alternatively. visit the forum at www.polycount.com and dont be put off by everyone there being better than you. they are the nicest guys on the planet, and all want you to reach the same level as them :)

From what I remember of Maya, it's similar in function to 3DS max, the interface just looks a little different. Though I must admit it's been about 3 years since I've used Maya, so I really can't be sure.

So how close is GMax to 3ds? Oh, does anyone know where some decent GIMP tutorials are at? All the ones at the homepage are, well, not that great. (You mean the 'noise' filters put 'noise' in your picture? Wow, that's really cool!) Personally, I like the GIMP the most right now since PSP got really creepy to me, and Photoshop's trial is WAY too big for me not to run and hide at the thought of all the bizarre, unnecessary features it has. *hides from Photoshop purists* Oh, out of curiosity, where's the original MJ model at that you're using? I don't think FF has it.

I believe we do, but as I recall it's listed under JA instead of JO.

Im using an old origonal MJ release that included the UV's with the zip. I think you can get it through Jedi Outcast classic files. Its smart to learn the basics with a program like the gimp for starters. Its very simular to PS,in the sense it uses layers and bump map etc.. At some stage you will definatly want to switch over to PS though. There are just some things you cant do with the Gimp. Adobe is like the new Kodak of the industry. But I did recently demo the latest Gimp release and was blown away with what it offers.

Yay, I found the original model and it's average skins. I know, I'll probably need to crossover to PS sometime, but 15 and no job = no 500 dollars needed for PS :( I hope the skin is closing in on being released. The red-dye job Jan I downloaded a while ago really doesn't do the job.

You can get a photoshop trial at the site, and I think www.QVC.com has a copy of PS 7 SOMEWHERE.

[EDITEDBY="Inyri"]Don't bother suggesting such things. Read the FAQ and brush yrouself up on the rules before you get yourself into serious trouble.[/EDITEDBY] if you can't get PS, may i suggest Fireworks MX2004 as an alternative? i've done some skins with it (they sucked, but that was cause of my lack of talent, not the program i used  ) and it's fairly easy to use, and the advanced functions are quite effective too.
