*post your mapping questions here*

Foreword: Due to the success of my other threads, which invovled me whining about my problems and people providing helpful answers....I realized as I and others warm up to the program, (GTKradiant) more questions are bound to surface. (I already have a few ) so as a result, I decided to make a thread for all wannabe mappers who have questions about the program, so all the questions and answers to all the mapping problems can be asked and answered here. I figured it would make a sort of manual for the mapper who has a few questions about the program, and it also cuts down on the clutter in the main mod/edit thread.

Rules: The rules are simple, ask your questions politely, people will respond in a positive manner. Treat the people who answer your questions with respect, they didn't have to answer you. If you're going to try and describe a situation, pictures help convey what it is you're trying to explain, if you can get a screenshot of your problem, attach it. Also, people answering the questions, make sure to note which question you're answer...if you don't, it could be very confusing for people trying to read, quote the question or name the person asking the question, just try to make it as easy to understand who you're answering. One more thing, before you go wasting your time writing your question, look back through the other questions, maybe it has already been asked and answered.

Well thats basically it, I hope this idea really takes off, it could be a useful guide to wet-around-the-ears mappers everywhere.

Not to be rude, but there's also the master sticky, which has links to sites with mapping tutorials.

:0wned:...yeah thanks for the tip data lord...anyway like vader was saying, there are alot of tuts that are less then satisfactory, and the rich diesal tut website doesn't seem to be working..anyway i think its a fairly good idea, and at least if no one else posts their problems in here then I will post my own as I move along in the program...P.S I just downloaded Gmax 1.2...Im probably gonna have some Q's there, even though i heard there was a tut in the mastersticky about saber design...I'll go check it out. Im probably gonna want to know other things that the tut may not cover...im gonna have to make a new thread for that......:uhoh:

well if this thread's gonna go dead...I suppose I'll have to go back to posting my problems in seperate threads...pity

If you feel we need more tutorials in the Master Sticky, either PM DataLord about adding some, or if that doesn't work, PM me about poking him with a stick until he drags his butt away from NWN and adds some. :p

Similarly, if a tutorial doesn't exist and you think one needs writing, I'll see what I can do.

I was going to code a tutorials database for QuakeWarsFiles sometime this week anyway, may as well add the code to JKFiles as well.

I don't know how, and I don't know why, but this is totally Sheep's fault.

I think this thread should be a "ask for a tutorial (that doesnt already exist, and have to be written)" -thread instead of "asking for help" -thread. hmm? what ya think?

That's what this tutorial database I'm planning will be for.....

Provided neither Inyri nor DataLord object to adding it to JKFiles, that is.

yeah a database of tuts would be nice...also a specific search engine would be way nicer...i dont know...making a tutorial on adding music to your map (current thing im wondering about) that also includes how to make it so no one can see your supposedly hidden room half drawn through a window some distance away, same with a tutorial about how to make it so your map can be mega big to test all your vehicles...these are not tutorial worthy problems...most of these questions that i was expecting to be asked here are one or two sentence answers...at most...if anything i expected this thread to also be a supplement to those tuts...no matter how many tuts one can make, theres always gonna something someone has a question on that was either unclear in the tut or unexplained completely....to me, asking your simple questions here or searching through the questions already asked and answered takes up considerably less time than wading through lengthy tuts...but with this new database...im looking forward to it; but im sure theres always gonna be someone with questions. like I said, when i get a chance im gonna post my own quick questions in here, and i hope the threadbrowsers passing by can be kind enough to take a look and answer them.

ty all

Adding music to your map? Damn that's easy.

Just pk3 your music file in the "music" folder, then in your map, select your worldspawn entity.

Add the key: music and the value: filename.mp3. The MP3 file has to be saved as 44100Hz, 128kbps, and stereo.

we have a very extensive library of tutorials, if not the biggest, one of the biggest. And Rich's site is working fine. We have an agreement with him to host and improve it. Anyway, here is a link to rich's stuff we've been working on.
