I was trying to use Rich Diesal's tutorial to get a md3 model ingame.

I'd like to use one of those Yavin tree models.

I followed the tutorial pretty closely as far as I can tell... but instead of a tree with leaves and everything I get just a naked trunk without leaves. (it does cast a shadow of leaves but doesn't show me the leaves. as if it can't display the shader)

Here's the shot in the editor.

What did I miss ?...

Ohh... I just noticed that changing the classtype to misc_model_static does display the whole tree... but in that case no shadow is being drawn.

I kinda liked that shadow.. so... I'm slightly more happy but still not happy enough ;)

Try giving the entity the key:

key: _castshadows value: 1

If that doesn't work, you should make a new shader for the tree leaves (as its thew shader that causes it not to appear on some normal misc_models) and incorporate it into a replica version of the model by giving it a new skin that references your shader.

Alternately, if you are using a model with a _b suffix in the name, simply use the model of the same name but without the _b suffix and make it a normal misc_model.

Szico VII;4201467Try giving the entity the key:

key: _castshadows value: 1

It works for the shadow part... but now the model doesn't receive any light. It casts a nice shadow but stays completely dark itself.

at first I thought there were no tree models without the _B suffix... but apparently they came with the JKA edit tools ! .... I put em in my own pk3 file and....

OMFG... IT WORKS with shadows and everything!
