Well, we still need some more people (total recruited last time: 3 people...) Anyway, we need a UVW mapper, modeler, maybe a mapper... some other things, I was only informed today that we need a UVW mapper or whatever, and we don't really have a lot of people and I'm probably the only one with mapping experience... I don't think any of us have modelling experience, so a modeler is a need for the mod. uvw mapping is part of the model process so that should be found with a modeler

Some modelers don't have the ability to uvmap, as I didn't until several months ago.

then they aren't modelers.

the studio i work for expects the following of me: to be able to work to reference art (NOTE: reference art doesn't always mean a front + side pic) to create an accurate 3-d reprisentation of the concept. to be able to uvw map to an extremely high standard, taking advantage of all UVW space. to be able to texture to be able to create a stable skeletal rig if needed, or if supplied with one, to be able to rig the mesh to it. to be able to assist our animations department by editing either the mesh, or rig, to enable better results.

all that, and i'm still only a junior character artist :P

oh and if ths is the same mod where Link showed me stuff over MSN. then your current modeler needs to be able to take critique, and actually look at the source art, cos his work so far is shit.

Can't you use XSI to model and download "roadkill" (I think it's called that) to automatically UVW map?

Don't trust an automatic unwrap. It's either horrible, sucks balls or completely impossible to work with. If you're lucky you'll get something barely good enough to pass for a simple test. No matter how good the plugin is, you'll always have to tweak the UVW map before you can use it.

You can, you can also do that in 3ds Max via "flatten mapping".

But it is, frankly, the worst possible way to do it. As no doubt Inyri would tell you. At least, she better tell you that, 'cuz if I find out she was making excuses and bitchin' at me just for the sake of bitchin' at me, then the next time we co-op on DF2 I'm going to be very tempted to "overshoot my target".

actually, roadkill isn't bad =x

it's very very good for scenery.
