Alright, so there's always been people asking me what to do about managing their downloads. It's always "I don't want this in the file, can I download just one of them?" Well, here's my tutorial for downloading ONLY what you want. First off, download WinRAR, it is the best .zip opening program you'll ever find. Has all the greatest features and no downsides. Next, find your download! So you're looking through jk3files or some other site and you find a file. Click it and download it for pete's sake! Step 1: First things first click this "Download Now" button to download your file. You can use either link but I recommend choosing the one closest to where you live. For me, I live in Canada, so I use the American link rather than the Australian link. Step 2: When this message appears, choose open. The reason why is that you can extract the files and use them properly without having to save the whole file and take up space on your computer. Step 3: The file will start downloading. (Not really a step, just being thorough.) Step 4: You will then be finished the download and this screen will appear showing everything inside the file you just downloaded. If there's something you don't want in there, simply delete it by clicking it once and pressing the 'Delete' key. Easy enough, right? Well there's more. Step 5: Now, if there's something more specific you want to delete like a team skin then double click on any file you have and it will open up to show all it's files. Now, modifying this is mostly evil if not done right. Make sure you know what you are deleting. Inside here you will find everything that makes up this file, all of it is self explanitory from there, just clicking and deleting. Yes, you may open up the files and delete smaller files, sub-folders, etc. Step 6: Now once you are finished exit out of the file you opened. Make sure you leave open the window that popped up when your download finished. When deleting something it will ask if you want to update the archive. This simply means that you want to update the file to match what you deleted. So in simple terms this basically means 'Are you sure you want to delete this file?' So click yes. Now, you will only see the files that you want. Step 7: Once you got rid of all those pesky files you hate so much you want to get it into your game right? First of hold the Control button, it looks like 'Ctrl' on the keyboard. While holding it, click on the files you stil lwant to use. You can now release control. Click on the 'Extract To...' button. This will open up a window where you select where you want to put these files. You can use the guide window to get there or you can simply type (For most computers) 'C:\Program Files\Lucasarts\Star Wars Jedi Knight Jedi Academy\GameData\base'. If you installed it somewhere else, I suggest you use the window below it to find where you want to put it. Once done, press enter. It will then take the files to that folder. All that's left to do is play your game! DONE! Now I know it may seem simple and obvious but I made this for those that still need some help in this department. Thanks for reading, and if you have any questions feel free to post them. -Botdra Lar'les *NOTE: If you ever get a message saying your computer doesn't know how to open a file, click on 'Select program from a list' then go find where you installed WinRAR and click on the .exe file for it. (The one that runs WinRAR). It should be in C:\Program Files\WinRAR.
I would probably suggest that you download 7zip. Granted, it's probably a question of preference, but at least its freeware not shareware so there are no pesky "PURCHASE" notifications.
Also, you're pretty inconsistent with covering up file names in the tutorial. :p
Haha I finally gave up and admited it was Deuces Wild but whatever. Yeah it is a matter of preference I guess but neither 7zip or WinZip worked for me, both gave me severe viruses even though I downloaded from the official sites and neither worked on my PC. :( I lurve my WinRAR.
I prefer Zipgenius, but Pakscape is probably the best zip program for us modders.
Who doesn't know how to do that?
Better to have it than to not have it eh? Good tutorial, but you forgot to cover some stuff :p
I've been doing that since JK2! I thought most people knew how to.
Right, i usually just use pakscape for all my zip files. Windows also nativly can open them.
Why go through the trouble of deleting the files you don't need when you could simply extract the files you want and be done with it?

I go with Juggernut! :)
