Can somone please Help me with UVW Unwrapping? some hints maybe? on how to get it right, especially with complex things, im using GMAX. also, is there any program that can unwrap it easier? because, gmax's is v difficult for me... i am v new 2 it. is there an easier way to get a model ready to skin than this UVW unwrapping stuff? lots of different questions i guess, if anyone can help me please do...

EVERY model is UVW mapped, thats why what i call reskinning (i call them reskinners and not just skinners cause they didnt go through nearly as much time and effort as the original author) is considered so much easier than modeling because the model is already made, ingame and uv mapped. look around the internet, there should be some tuts on it somewhere. i hope your only makin a saber casue its the only thing youll be able to make with gmax cause it has no .xsi exporter available for it...

yeah, im just making my sabers in GMAX, im makin my models in Softimage, an my maps in GTK... thats what ive heard is best, is that correct? an yeah, i think you are right about the skinning part, compared to the work the original modeller would do, simply pasting images over the top of it, is nowhere near as intrical *nods*.

well i dont know where any 3ds max tuts are, i could never find any :S and if you dont just model and uv map in XSI and export it as .obj and import it into gmax and then make it an md3.

that sounds like a very good idea, is Softimage easier to UV map in, the editor in GMAX seems rather shallow.

im not sure, 3ds max 7 had a good unwrapper and i never used gmax so i wouldnt know. but as far as i can tell XSI might have a better unwrapper than gmax since gmax is fairly old and no longer supported, so theyll never be an update for it.

I've heard that Gmax's unwrapper is a bit limited, but at least there is a tutorial on the entire process of modelling a saber in Gmax, including uvmapping and getting the saber in game http://www.thejediacademy.net/~virtue/tutorials/hilts/saber_tutorial.html Please check the tutorials thread before asking something next time.

I would... the only thing stopping me is that thing is 119 posts long, some of which are absolutely unimportant... shouldnt somone lift sift thru it an get the links an then collapse that thing into one post? it would make searching it everytime u need somthing alot easier. instead of reading 119 posts :P. Then you guys might also not have the same questions cropping up all the time. Not attacking anyone or flaming, just mentioning.

Hah not only you present a lame excuse for being lazy, but you practically want others to look things for you... >_> If you actually take your time to read my post, you will notice that I gave you the exact link to the place you, also if you read the post again, you will notice that I mention the TUTORIALS STICKY, and not the REQUEST/SUBMIT TUTORIAL STICKY. Even if there are 119 posts, there is no excuse, after all Inyri compiled almost every useful tutorial I can think of on the TUTORIALS STICKY. >_>

InyriRemember, those who help themselves first are more likely to receive help when they need it.

**BTW, what I have stated above is not to be considered as flaming**
