heya people! Im working on a new vehicle and its almost done, but something about it just seems...."off"....i mean its my first model of ANY sort and i just need someone to help me out if i run into a snag. as of right now, i have the main body, the back, engines, and cockpit completed, but the rest needs to be done. i cant explain what needs to be done. the part i just finished is the glass part of the cockpit, not the body that connects the glass ON to the rest of the ship. I have pictures of it. if you would like to see it (its an f-zero machine, if youve ever played f-zero you will see that this is the blue falcon, captain falcon's vehicle of choice) im pretty sure ive make the car almost part for part give or take 2 tiny red dots in the back, but i will just fill those with when i texture it. Ive been using the vehicle viewer in the gamecube game f-zero gx to get a good look at the car, but if anyone knows what i can do to make it any better, please let me know. i will include you in the special thanks section of the read me when i relase this file. Im going to try and attach the images to this post, but i never have any luck with that. also instead of posting on a forum, it would be much easier to convey your advice through MSN mseenger or AIM (i dont have installed yet..) so please (after reading all of this) pass on your modelling knowledge to a up and coming developer!
(PS i cant get the images up so e-mail me if you want them....)
thanks, im gunna hafta check those out! as for now im gunna take a break. ive been working on it since wednsday and i must have stayed up till 4:48 in the morning. i made it and then i had to start over (the original model sucked!). i worked on it again thursday. and a bit of it today and quite frankly, im pooped, but still post i need any help or advice i can get. remember, i have an msn name and an AIM name (just need to install AIM) so IM me if you have any info that would be better explained live. also i need to know how to skin my model...the basic colors included in Gmax arent what i would call satisfactory....

these should help you until you post screenies.
thanks again, but i already have these links, i just never bothered to check them out lol. i guess i shouldnt be asking for a link if i had it lol by the way i just finished the model at 4:47 am and i could stay up for about a day and a half more if i wanted to.i just need to put the finishing touches on the model. the main body looks too round, when in reality the actual model should have flat sides. when i render the model in-game, will it round it out, or will the flat sides i used stay there? i used a cylinder as the body and sculpted it with those neat little blue dots into the basic shape. so does that mean it will be rounded out? or should i make squares or sumthing to form the flat sides? in my next post i will explain the methods i used to make each part. i want to make sure it goes in-game the way it should go. oh and if i group all of the meshes together as ONE item, would i still be able to texture-ize it? and is there a link for weighting (whatever that is...) i think i saw a forum thread sumplace about that...ok thats enough typing, this isnt an e-mail and my eyes are cramping (ouch)
hey i got another question about my vehicle. ive made the vehicle itself, but is there anyway to animate it. The vehicle is a floating type car (like the swoop) but it has landing gear when it isnt moving. could i animate some landing gear for a speeder type vehicle? or does it have to be a flying ship vehicle? also, when it turns, could i make it tilt to each side a little bit? or is that automatic? also could i make it strafe and tilt? and how do i give it custom sounds? i figured i could just import a speeder bike, take the tags and stuff off of it, take the sounds from it and just replace them with my own? and does it have to loop? i want acceleration sounds and when it reaches max speed i want the sound to keep playing, i also want decceleration sounds. basically what im asking is, are there any tutorials on how to give a vehicle tags, sounds, textures, and weighting (what is that anyways?). any links would be great.
oh yea and heres the pictures (i hope)
front perspective view pretty cool for my first official model eh? ive made a giant metal gear of my own design in bryce 4 once and i even made a cool lookin space ship (the one from gradius that i wanted to make in another thread of mine) i plan on making that ship next...i plan on posting all my vehicle questions here to save me the time of making another thread. enjoy the photos again! (hopefully)
Not too bad! and yes, I'm pretty sure you can put landing gear down, as Trauma Sensei make the wings unfold on his Sith fighter, so ask him about it. It may just be me, but the window on the perspective view towards the right looks kinda funky, but that may just be me.
wow thanks! i never expected anyone to say it was good! (or not too bad) i mean its my first model (for JKA) and its my first time using gmax to make sumthing. all the other times ive used bryce and poser, and like i said, i made a scale version of metal gear onyx (i designed my own metal gear after beating metal gear solids 1,2, and 3) anyways this is awsome. so anyways about the landing gear, where would i go? i mean its not mandatory, im just saying that in one cutscene from f-zero GX the blue falcon slows down to a stop and 3 landing legs come down and it..well...lands! is it possible to make the gear come down if it is sitting there for more than a set amount of time, cuz i dont want the gear to come down EVERY time you stop. mabey everytime you get out? anyways time to scour the froum for help! (ps: im definately including you in the credits, your the only person that helped out! and i appreciate that.)
oh yea i see what you mean. no worries, i plan on covering that upanyways. same with the front of the ship, it isnt all black in the front so i plan on covering that up in the front (to be more accurate to the actual car) and i never got my other qustion answered, since i made the car's body from a cylinder, will the car be rounded out? i want the car to be flat on the edges and such, will JKA round it out when i bring it in-game? or will need to cover that up with another flat thingy? oh and that purple plate thingy in the back, i plan on overlapping that also, there is this extra plate of "hull" that lays on top of part of it, bah i cant explain, just wait for my next image post...
